Back injury?

A couple of months ago, I developed lower back pain and stiffness--likely the result of leg presses in the gym. It was further aggravated by running. I could barely bend over to get my shoes on.

So I didn't exercise for 7-10 days, took pain killers, etc. and the pain and stiffness totally went away. Thinking everything was fine, I started running, lifting weights and stretching again. The stiffness gradually came back (although not as bad as before). Now it bothers me in the morning when I wake up, and sometimes at night before going to bed. It is way down low, and radiates to the hip. Situps seem to really aggravate the condition.

Any idea what this might be? I have lousy insurance, so I don't want to necessarily run off to the doctor about this. I'm 39 and in pretty good shape.

Rather than doing sit-ups-which do no good for your back, find out how to strengthen your core muscles. That will help with your back alignment and it will also provide better support for your eintire body. If you don't the correct way to do them, find someone who can teach you. It will benefit you the rest of your life.
