I am new to this site and I am hoping I can get some information. I had back fusion on the l4/l5 2 years ago. I also have an SI joint disfunction that I have not been able to get treated. My surgery was done through a 2 inch incision in the back and a 3 inch one in the front. Since my surgery I am constipated for 3-5 days and then have diarrhea for a day. This is a never ending cycle. I still have muscle spasms and I sometimes have sore to the touch on my right side of my stomach. I wonder if something was moved or not put back right in my stomach. Has anyone else had this experience.

Jodie, have you talked with a doctor about this? I would think with that continuing like that and this far out from the surgery, you really need to get yourself evaluated for that. I strongly urge you to go to a doctor. I think you need a CT Scan to see what's goin on in there and maybe a lower and upper GI as well. Good luck.

Are you taking pain meRAB? They can really give you severe constipation:(
and yummy aches!

I totally agree with Mam, if you are still taking pain medications especially that are constipating you, you need to counteract that with something such as stool softener, or more fiber in your diet. The diarrhea after constipation is the back log so to speak. It is dangerous and unhealthy to let that keep happening. Drink lots of water and try a daily stool softener (not very expensive).
Hope you are feeling better.
Jen
PS if you are not on medication than I would agree that seeing your doc would be next step.

hi your body not the same after the surgery like a fusion.your insides are actually pushed aside and the intestines are laid outside the body so they can get in there.you bound to have that problem rest of your life.do you eat raisin bran or something to help?sorry to hear you in so much pain.hope you get better

Yes, I haven't been the same since any of my surgeries, mainly after my 3rd and 4th surgery. My 3rd was a T5-Sacrum total reconstructive surgery (back/front/back procedure) and since then the left side of my abdominal area is always blocked up and looks as though Im 6 mths pregnant (Im 5'9 and 135 pRAB) and eventually after a week will have a bowel movement. As soon as I start eating, I'm *full* and cannot eat. Since my 4th surgery, after a car accident that shoved my roRAB into my spinal cord and have no feeling in my lower torso, I still have the same problems only worse, as that area cannot function properly and I never know when or if I need to go to the bathroom or else it will just come out, so yes, it's something that happens. You need to keep on a daily schedule of taking Metamucil to regulate your body. That is really the only answer, other than do not have another surgery, because the problems you have now only continue to get worse.
