im planning a trip with 3 or 4 adults and two dogs for the porkies in the UP of Michigan. im having some trouble figuring out how to carry all the dog food im going to need for a week and a half for the 60 lb and a 40 lb doggys. both are pitbull mixes, and the larger one is used to carrying some weight in a backpack on shorter trips.
Does anyone have any advice on carrying that much food, how to divide it up, how much could i let the dogs carry etc.
the terrain is slightly rugged and we as humans will be taking frequent rests, as will the dogs. but i want them to carry as much as possible because our packs are going to be pretty full as well. i just dont want this to be a deathmarch for them lol. any help/tips is excellent, thanks!

Hi, My name is Tucker and I am an Australian Shepherd.
A mature dog can carry about 20 to 25 % of their body weight. So, even the smaller dog could set out with about a 10 pound load. Look into buying dog food that requires the least weight for each day. But remember that they are working so you can't cut down their food.
I haven't gone on any hikes that long but I do have a pack - sometimes I wear it just for extra work on a walk. Sometimes I carry things my stuff for short hikes. You can read more about it on my website (the first listed below. The second is my blog - just for fun.)
