Axis Powers Hetalia: WW2 has never been so funny

I know there was a thread a few months back addressing the controversy surrounding this series, but now that it has become available, has anyone watched it?

I have, and I like what I saw. It's short (only 5 minutes an episode) but it packs a lot of jokes into a small amount of time. The characters are hilarious, and play off of traditional sterotypes in a way that does not feel tired or forced. I particularly happy with the way America is shown, he's awesome. Plus he has Kamina's VA, you can't get more hot-blooded and bold then that!

It does have a lot of implied yaoi though, so be forewarned (or enticed if your name is Samantha). Thankfully it never overwhelms the other elements, and the female characters are just as awesome (and insane) as their male counterparts.

I've been watching these Hetalia shorts and enjoying them; I've been taking an European History class this year so the timing couldn't have been better. I think though, from what little I've read of the manga, the manga is probably a bit sharper and funnier overall.

Hetalia is cute and goofy from what I've seen. One thing that's worth seeing at least once; is a room full of anime stereotypes---each one representing a country---clashing with one other.

No, "italia/itaria" is the Japanese word for Italy. "Hetalia" comes from corabining "hetare" ("useless") and "Italia". It's a joke about how Italy was pretty useless during WWII.

I've been watching this show every week. While the jokes are sometimes funny, the show comes off with a unique charm that just makes it interesting to watch.

Oh, and Italy gets beat on...a LOT.
