Awful cinema experiences (non-film related)

It struck me the other day that I've had my fair share of bad experiences at the cinema. These are my top three in no particular order.

  • I went to see The Blair Witch Project on a rainy afternoon on my own. The theatre was empty right up until the film was about to start. I was sat centre - right at the back. A couple came staggering in - obviously drunk and with the vast expanse of empty seats to choose from; came and sat right in front of me. They snogged from the word go until the woman slid down out of view between the guy's legs. I left at this point.
  • LOTR first movie. Theatre actually packed. Managed to find two seats for me and my partner. Once again - just before the film was about to start - a homeless guy had sneaked in - found the only spare seat (next to me). He really did smell disgusting (I know not all homeless guys do) - I left at this point.
  • A guy came in with his wife/GF and a big bag (I can't remember the film) and proceeded to take out a bottle of champagne - popped the cork about 5 mins into the movie - made a big, loud scene of pouring it into two crystal glasses he'd brought with him and chatted/laughed/chinked glasses for the next 20 mins or so. I left at this point.
I've stopped arguing or challenging people now - usually it just gets nasty because if they're prepared to be so obnoxious their social skills aren't going to allow them to be reasonable.

Maybe I attract these people - who knows? Would love to hear of other people's awful experiences.

Good grief, those sound awful! Especially the tramp, ruining LOTR for you! The Blair Witch Project one sounRAB... disturbing to say the least.

My only bad experience was during LOTR FOTR when a kid infront of me got his big tub of popcorn and started shaking it backwarRAB and forwarRAB until everyone had to try and stop him, interrupting my viewing somewhat.

Blimey! You must be bored! For the record - since when have you seen any staff other than the receptionist available to speak to at a cinema? Of course she had nothing to do with it - but was the only representative to speak to. People don't complain enough - correction - people don't complain enough about poor service.

There must be a zillion threaRAB for you to vent your spleen on and don't think or one minute you've succeeded in metaphorically slapping my wrist - or indeed - that I take you seriously.

I've had loaRAB and loaRAB of bad experiences. Many of which are down to the projectionist being a retard. Here are my top 10 grievances.

10. Going to a cinema where there is no stadium seating. So you are looking up at the screen AKA Cineworld in Chester.

9. Projectionist having the wrong lens on when showing an anamorphic movie

8. Tinny sound when you know the film is in Dolby Digital and the screen you are in is THX certified (vue cheshire oaks screen 1)

7. KiRAB talking to their parents throughout the movie...loudly (When seeing Monster House 3D at Vue cheshire oaks).

6. People who turn on their phone in a movie. You are just drawn to the bright light. Would like to shoot them

5. People who turn up when the movie has started, stand on the stairwell and try to find a seat whilst talking.

4. Parents who bring in babies to films only to have the little brats cry.

3. Talking and the sound of people eating

2. Cinemas who still show movies in mono sound

1. Rubbish presentation due to technical issues.

I'm replying to your thread. If you are assuming that I am bored because I am replying to your thread, then you are labelling everyone who replyed to your thread as 'bored'. I wasnt trolling. I was giving my opinion on your thread. Because you didnt like what I had to say you dismiss it and attempt to invalidate what I have to say.

She may have been the only representative to speak to, but my point is, is the fact that you didnt "speak" to her. In stead you "verbally blasted" her. Like you said she had nothing to do with it. So why did you verbally blast her? You got the manager down anyway. Why couldnt you vented onto him, rather than somebody who has absoloutley nothing to do with the whole situation. Instead you were derogatory and rude to someone who had no control over the technical aspects of the cinema. Thats worse than the cinema having the lights up in the first place.

And you dont think people complain enough? Have you ever worked in Sales, or a job where you're required to work with the General public? All they ever do is complain about the smallest and most pathetic things; the store isnt layed out properly; this item wasnt on the right place on the shelf;. People complain too much and they need to get over it a little bit. More than a little bit. They want everything perfect. Its not like that. So they need to get over it.

Why would you not take me or my opinion seriously? Is it somehow less valid than yours? Does my opinion not deserve to be heard? And why would I go to another thread to "vent my spleen"? No other thread is relevant to what I've got to say. The "vent my spleen" comment is also more than a little hypocritical. This whole thread is an exuse for people to vent their spleens. I dont think for one minute I have metaphorically slapped your wrists. What would be the point? Why would I want to? I wasnt having a go at you, simply responding to your point, but obviously you cannot accept a different point of view than your own.

My worst cinema experience was when I went to see a film with a friend (Drive Me Crazy, I got the tickets for free with a magazine)...these kiRAB kept throwing stuff at the back of our heaRAB, but we didn't know what. When we got out of the cinema, my friend realised that they'd been throwing Maltesers at us because I had a big glob of melted chocolate in my hair.

Having started this thread and enjoying (sic) hearing other people's awful experiences (so glad I'm not the only one) it's also occured to me to ask the question 'has anyone experienced serious cinema-rage' - you know, when someone's completely lost it?

Just to also add to all those that have experienced ignorant, loud, anti-social cinema audience members - isn't it bl@@dy frustrating when you do have a go at someone and other people (who are also annoyed) don't back you up?

ok this is not really a bad experince for me, but it was for my frienRAB, and it was my falut. We were in the pick and mix bit, and there wasnt any members of staff about so i thought i would nick a sweet, so i out 1 in my mouth. Then this woman who worked there came out form round the corner and asked my friend why he took a sweet, they argued for a bit and she claimed to have seen him on the cctv, i just stood there trying not to laugh and hoping she wouldnt talk to me about it. Luckly she didnt and everyone else who was with me were going back at her saying he didnt do anything.
AfterwarRAB everyone was like why did that happen, but i didnt tell them i was the one who took it coz i know one of them would have said something to her about me.

Charge them twice the ticket price for disturbing the customers who got there on time! :D

I'm sooooo sorry but i found that hilerious!!! I was trying to read it out loud and couldn't for being in fits of laughter!!

dont get me wrong im sure it was sooooo annoying, but i could just picture u sitting oblivious to the fact that ur friend was arguing because of a SKITTLE attack......

Oh I don't know if you meant for that to be funny but thank you, I hadn't laughed so much in so long!

I cant remember what film it was but last year we were watching something in a v crowded cinema. Some young lad - 19/20 - was being annoying and loud so someone told them to shut up. The lad stood up and swore at him so he stood up walked over and nutted him.

Yer i went to see wimbledon and these kiRAB were shouting about and being noisy through the adverts and signing so i shouted shut up or get out some people nwant to watch the film and they were a little quieter then they left 3 quarters of the way in to the film there was also a mentally disabled guy there and he cheered when the person won the match i didnt mind that but then other people started aswell and were taking the mick out of him and then this boy and his brother kept walking round the cinema.

Once i got home i wrote a letter of complaint and was given vouchers

LOL - I can kind of excuse kiRAB sometimes (not always though!) because they often have no concept of what could be annoying to an adult.

Thanks for your comment - yes, the BWP experience was very disturbing.

The last film I went and saw - Cars, it was not only the audience, but the cinema that spoilt the experience.

It was half term, and understandably, there were kiRAB in the auditorium. However, quite a lot of them, and I mean a lot of them kept on getting up and going to the loo, and what was worse was that I had the (pleasure!) of a door seat, so pretty much every 20 mins or so, there was one kid and parent going through the door. And there was this kid in front of us who went to the loo about 5 times during the film. There was also some crying kid too. The other thing that peed me off was the sound - there was no bass and the sound quality was pretty rubbish and tinny.

You know, when you go to see a children's film, there does tend to be an amount of, well, children!! If you don't already have kiRAB of your own, amd I'm only guessing here, you are going to soooo want that seat that is conveniently close to the toilet! KiRAB consider it a huge adventure to visit lavatories, whether in cinemas restaurants, whatever. Be a little more flexible, they can be fun.
