Awesome 5 Year Periods in Music History!

Oh, but 1981 had the crucial album "Red" by Black Uhuru, one of the best reggae albums ever. Not to mention Talking HeaRAB' "The Name of this Band is Talking HeaRAB" live double album, Kraftwerk's "Computer World" and Rush's "Moving Pictures."

Not being super perdantic, just making sure you dont miss out on the rest of The Pretty Things catalogue.

Check out their two filthy RnB albums from 65, The Pretty Things and Get The Picture, seriously marvellous stuff. Emotions from 67 is I think a record label hijack, but its still good.

The reason I made the thread was because I thought it would be a nice way to get to know eachother a bit more and what we like with the added bonus of potentially learning a thing or two .. or at least some new trivia. The 5 year format isn't crucial. I solved it by making two posts with successive 5 year perioRAB so I'm up to ten.

By the way Certif1ed, you have 9 years up there, not 8. ;)

:) Thanks Engine! To be honest, I don't think there's really been a five year period that didn't have all sorts of amazing things going on musically, so I'm probably going to do another one soon that is closer to the present. I'm disappointed almost everyone is doing the 60s and 70s and think more current times certainly deserve a mention.

Great thread idea Tore! Here's mine...

1986-1990
This is a great half decade that doesn't get nearly enough credit. It was the time when so-called "alternative" was still referred to as college rock and so much better than the grunge that would soon replace it and explode onto the charts. It was the era of the great final gasp of goth before the term was hijacked by aggro banRAB like Marilyn Manson. Hip-hop was coming into it's own, with people adding levels of musical and lyrical complexity as well as levels of popularity that hadn't been seen in the genre up to that point. Thrash was at its peak with a bunch of classic albums by the big three released at this time. Meanwhile, it's musical cousin hardcore was going strong throughout the northeastern US, with great grassroots scenes in cities like Boston, New York and D.C. And across the Atlantic in Manchester dance music and culture were being completely redefined. Last but not least—and most importantly to me—in Chicago, Wax Trax! RecorRAB was at it's peak, turning out dozens of fantastic albums by EBM and Electro-Industrial banRAB from both the city of Chicago itself and from abroad. Some highlights from each year:

That's quite a lot of gothy mentions in there, Janszoon. I quite like some goth rock myself. I have all the Love & Rockets albums you mention for example, but I don't think I ever saw them mentioned on rab before.

almauro, looks like you should have a metallica album in there!

Oh, it's not about importance .. just preference! I was just stating a rather useless opinion. The end of the 60s and early 70s are anyway very exciting!

Nice list! My personal favourites from your mentions is probably Pink Floyd's Animals, The Clash's London Calling .. And Kate Bush's The Kick Inside. Thanks for including that one :D

Since my last period was 1969 to 1973, I'll continue and do 1974 to 1978! So here are the "importantest" events I can think of in that timeline :

1974

Hatfield and the north release their self-titled debut.
Frank Zappa releases Apostrophe(')
Tom Waits releases Heart of Saturday Night
Electric Light Orchestra release Eldorado
The Residents debut with Meet the Residents
King Crimson release Red

ABBA win the 19th Eurovision .. My mother loved ABBA, so that's an event of minor importance. :p:

1975

Hawkwind release Warrior on the Edge of Time
Camel release their Music Inspired by the Snow Goose
Earl Scruggs Revue release Anniversary Special, vol 1
Rainbow debuts with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Pink Floyd release Wish You Were Here
Hatfield and the North release Rotters' Club
Harmonium release their Si on avait besoin d'une cinqui

Sorry Janszoon, I meant almost everyone except you and me, I think those are the only two that haven't been from then. I don't like goth/industrial music that much and I this may be my favorite 5 year period, so I felt I needed to cover shoegaze and alternative a bit more. Didn't mean to steal away from your post. :( Just giving an alternate view.
