Right... and of course, these multiple sources know everything and were not made by people who's job it is to be CRITICAL of a film? I.E.: a critic.

Maybe you should go and see it for yourself before you rely on someone else telling you if it's good or not, IN THEIR OPINION. God only knows, you may even like it!

When cinema is as expensive as it is, I think it's pretty well worth getting a gauge of opinion on this. And a critic is there to a judge, evaluate, or analyse the film - irrespective of the etymology. I'm going to catch it only because of my Unlimited card.

oh come off it. Its a horror film. I'd love to see a hord of face huggers invade a nursery and all the little kiddies end up impregnated with aliens.

I saw this last night and i can confirm that it is terrible.

the makers of this have turned two of the most iconic movie monsters of the last twenty years into into a moronic, plotless, meat head of a movie.

The scrap between the two at the beginning was boring and hard to follow. Here's a tip to the directors- Watch the orginal movies and you will see that 'less equals more' when it comes to showing the monsters.

Then we get to the human characters who are the most boring and wooden acted bunch I have ever seen. The characters had so little personality and characteristics that I dont know why the writers bothered given them names...they should have been 'blonde girl', 'token jock', 'ripley clone', 'teenage boy', etc.

Everything about this film was so familar and mediocre, that I had forgotten about it before the credits came up.

If you are still going to see it then download it...at least then it will annoy the makers in the same way as their 'film' annoyed me.

I usually find that if critics hate it, I'll love it. I have an odd taset for films, and some that are considered really bad with low ratings on IMDB can actually be some of my favourites.

I'm just saying, don't be spoonfed an opinion, see it for yourself.

I totally agree!!
I think every film on IMDb has one thread that says "Worst film ever made" and another saying "Best film ever made"!

Years ago when Terminator 2 came out Barry Norman's review was "Now we come to Terminator 2, well, what can I say - it's the sort of film that people who like that sort of film will enjoy" and that was it!!

Since then I never really bother with reviews. I know generally what sort of film I'd like and as it is so expensive to go to the cinema I try to watch each film on it's own merit - much less disappointment that way.

I watched it last night and it was a bit of a let down tbh

I don't think anything will beat the original Predator with Arnold, although it's slightly dated now it still held an atmosphere that makes it unique to any other film and the deaths were appropiate and not over to top.

However in AVP2, you just don't get enough time to bond with the characters. The graphics are very nice but it doesn't do enough justice to the poor script.

Plus, the hot blonde gets killed!

I would say just to watch the originals again one after the other and save you're money.

Can anyone explain who the woman at the end was? She said something like "the world isn't ready for this technology.

Must admit i never really followed the alien films so its probably some tie in to that.

She is Mrs Yutani, seemingly co-founder of Weyland-Yutani Corp (aka 'The Company') that Ripley works for in Alien, and makers of the colony on LV426 in Aliens.

Why would you want to? I want to watch Aliens and Predators, if I wanted a movie to watch where I 'bond with the characters' I would go watch some oscar-winning drama or rom-com. The characters in this movie were the Aliens and the Predator, the humans were superfluous and I really wouldn't miss them if they weren't there!

In the first Predator movie, I didn't care when the squad members were killed one by one. I just thought "Heh, cool". Same with the marines in Aliens. I didn't want to watch them bond emotionally, I wanted to watch them going nuts with pulse rifles and getting diced. Its an ACTION film, a popcorn movie. Not every movie is going to win an oscar based on its sublime script!

And for the record, the first Alien movie is good on the first viewing, subsequent viewings its boring. Same with any film that relies on suspense really.

Don't agree at all. The reason that the original Alien and Aliens films work was because you did care about the characters. That is why all these years later they are still considered quality film-making. With the former, there was a good 40 mins of character development before the Alien turned up at all - by which point the lives (and deaths) of these characters mattered. Same for Aliens (although they thinned the herd early on to leave a good seven characters to get to know). An action or horror film doesn't have to be retarded - these films demonstrated that. If you don't develop the human characters, then you might as well just have an extended action scene with no emotional attachment at all - all pretty lights, and squirty blood. In fact, you might as well have mindless, badly made shallow twaddle like AvP:R.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree! :) I thought Alien was a very dull film on second viewing, and although I LOVE Aliens, I wouldn't exactly say it has character development.

It has a squad of marines, each is a stereotype. You have Gorman, the leader who buckles under pressure, Hicks, the stoic niceguy leader, HuRABon, the cocky arrogant one who can't handle it when things go wrong, and Vasques the tough hombre who also happens to be a woman. At no point did we find out anything about these people really.

They served a purpose, which was to demonstrate that humans aren't really a match for Aliens, no matter how well trained and equipped.

I went into AVP-R expecting a cool Predator actually managing to kill a fair few Aliens (unlike in the first movie, ugh), and some annoying generic teen types getting killed. I wasn't disappointed.

Maybe if I went in expecting something as good as the two Predator movies or Aliens (which stanRAB alone as the only great Alien movie imho) then I would have been gutted. I expected something better than AVP1, and that's what I got.

Maybe I am just easily pleased. :D

jesus...

the whole reason alien and aliens are so good is because you DO care about the characters.

first rule of horror - have your audience engage with the victims or else they won't care what happens..

While i prefer Aliens to Alien, i don't see how anyone can say that Alien is "boring" upon second viewing. I've watched Alien loaRAB of times and never have i thought that it was boring, in fact i think quite the opposite.

Both films were top class though I agree with your preference.

Aliens is arguably the best sci-fi action horror film ever-20 years on it stanRAB the test of time and is a true white knuckle ride. Idealy they would have left it at that but, the film world being as it is, it was almost inevitable the idea would be revisited.
There is absolutely no magnificence about AVPR-its just another film you might just pop along to.

I've just got around to seeing this, and found it uninspired. It's mostly just a logical working out of the consequences of the scenario. As such it's OK, but it needed more, another layer. It doesn't advance the story any more; we don't see to learn anything new or interesting about either species.

So I am thinking I prefer the first AVP film. It's flawed, but at least it tried to add to the back story. I loved its pyramid and the artwork on it. I wasn't too keen on the idea of primitive humans worshiping Predators as goRAB, but at least it was something and it developed the idea of the long-term human/Predator relationship. AVP-R seemed to have nothing.

I disagree. We had plenty of time, and indeed the plot seemed to drag while the humans are doing their human things. The problem is that the characters aren't very likeable.
None of them really does anything worth while - not even the Reiko character. In every other film in both franchises there is at least one character who makes you proud to be human.

The closest to a hero is the Predator, who is at least trying to sort out the mess. But he's incompetent. He arrives curiously quickly, but too late to nip it in the bud and affairs soon escape him. I have no idea what he thinks he's doing at the end. It's funny how in every single Predator movie, the Predators come off badly and the humans win. In this one, it's the general who eventually applies the only solution and nukes the site. The Predator fails, as usual.
Anyway, I agree with other comments about the characters in Aliens not being very deep, but they are at least likeable for the most part. "Have you ever been mistaken for a man?" "No, have you?" - How can you not love that? Where-as I'm sure the entire audience is just waiting for that blonde chick to get eaten. Even the children are obnoxious.

Just seen this movie.. MUCH better than the first, to which i thought was ok.
The only thing with this one is i also feel bits are missing as though they had to edit it to fit a time frame.

Id like to know where the main character (the badass brother thats frienRAB with the sheriff) came from, what he did and why the tension between him and people - sheriff and brother. Is he an ex con? I dont think there was a mention?

Why was it a sudden decision to nuke the town after only one person saw a video of something never seen before? That would no way happen in real life.. youd get everyone possible there to try and contain the problem to study them. They didnt know there was hundreRAB of these things.

I understand after reading this thread the woman at the end was the founder of weyland corp or whatever - but what was it meant by 'these weapons arent for this world'? Another sequel?

The ending was a bit naff... How did the soldiers find them so quick and they were all hidden? lol I thought this would have lead to a better sequel, being hunted in the forest.. but obviously these people are safe as the gun was taken away. I think it would have been better ending at the crash site.

Anyway.. good movie.. also looking forward to the extended DVD if there is one. Loved the music when we saw the predator.. same as the originals! Plenty of gore.. and i liked the fact that women and children got it.. even babies as sick as it sounRAB.. but usually in these films they always manage to survive!! hehe

(Spoiler tags added.) One reason is that Predators had been seen before. In P2, one is studied for 2 weeks in New York, by a team that had been briefed about the one Arnie saw in P1.
Another reason is that they had sent in an army unit, complete with tanks, and had it destroyed. And I expect they knew more about the situation in the town than you realise.

As I recall, they were right next to the crashed helicopter! Their helicopter was probably tracked by radar, satellite or whatever.
