I saw the A v P on Channel 4 on Sunday for the first time and AvPR today.
I could not agree with you more. Shockingly bad is actually an understatement with regard to AvPR. These are two great movie icons placed inwhat seems to be a cheap eighties horror plot. I dont tend to make sweeping statements and each to their own ofcourse-but to me this was dire and an insult to the concept.

Well i have just got back from watching this and i must say it is a hell of alot better than the other AVP - plenty of action just like an original predator/alien movie.

If you are a fan then you will like this!

Went to see this last night. It made AvP look like sodding Atonement. On paper, some good ideas. In practice, bowel-shatteringly bad execution, wafer thin characters and it looks like it was edited after 12 cans of Red Bull. Just excremental on every conceivable level. Oh, and the re-jigged Pedator/Alien lifecycle idea was the kind of misguided abstraction made by the clinically insane. Utter utter cat crap.

i dont know how much of a spoiler this is so ill cover it up:

The PRED-Alien actually looked quite cool, and there are some amazing scenes where the predator owns a few aliens. And the predator gets pissed off!

And this one is a spoiler, not much to the story:

You get a glimpse of the predator homeworld very cool i think..

Can't wait to see it - I've seen the trailer a few times at the cinema and on Monday Night, Film4 showed the first 5 minutes of the film between Alien and Predator 2.

I've seen it and I it IS a lot better than the first one...

The music is fantastic and yes the fights are good. Its a got some gore in places, but its very 'familiar' - we've seen it all before, so its not scary.

For all the sniping about the acting and characters (which are very average at best) there is at least one really well done scene where they have the make an important choice (you'll kno it when you see it)... it suggests how good the film could've been if only they'd had a bit more if it.

Its too short, feels like a lot of charcter sstuff is missing (waiting for the extended DVD)...

I thought the last 20 mins or so rattled along nicely, and although its a bit too 'easy' it nice and nasty and keeps you hooked.

the very end is crap tho.

go with AVP level expections and you will enjoy yourself. Go with Aliens/Alien/Pred level expectations and you'll be annoyed for most of the movie!

As I said tho - I enjoyed it! It's much truer to the spirit of the originals than the first one.
Enjoy peeps!

Saw this last night, thought it was a lot better than it's predecessor but then that's not actually saying much. It was still pretty average but it was nice to hear the old music/sound effects etc from the previous Aliens/Predator films and they did bring back the old Aliens stuff established like Aliens not instantly growing to full size, the making of the nests and the look of the alien from Aliens.
Sadly though a lot of the dialogue was laughable and cringe worthy the film was to dark and stuff just didn't make sense to me, such as the highly trained aiming to be totally inconspicuous predator eliminating all signs of Aliens only to decide to totally flay some bloke and from then on in roar and prance about to it's hearts content...oh while still aiming to be inconspicuous.. And I agree the re-jigged Predator/Alien life cycle was really stupid and seemed to be for shock value in ONE scene plus the idea was more than likely put in to avoid having a inanimate queen spawning eggs some place.

I personally think they should just lay off the VS sequels rest both franchises for a while and eventually bring one or both back for stand alone movies like the originals...and if not like the originals just don't bother at all! :)

Ditto apart from the 'some good ideas' bit. It appeared to have been conceived by a 12 year old, script and all.
I think this has killed my interest in the franchise stone dead.
Unless they can get Guillermo Del Toro to do a reboot. Or Chris Nolan.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago - I thought it was shockingly bad - and I really liked the first A v P

I just got back from seeing it. It's better than the dire AVP1, but that's really not saying much. The film really didn't have any ideas of it's own, most of the scenes/ideas were ripped straight out of Aliens and/or Predator, now whether this was intended to seem like a homage i don't know, but it just came across as a crappy rehash mixed with a terrible teen slasher like another poster said. The humans were really rubbish, both in their acting and the uninteresting characters that they were playing, i actually groaned when one of the character's names was revealed to be 'Dallas' (also the name of the captain of the Nostromo in Alien. Hmmm, original!), the "teenagers" who all looked about 30 were just an annoying distraction, with one scene in particular involving the main girls arse being totally out of place in an Alien film, and don't even get me started on Reiko Ayelsworth's Ripley clone! I actually think the film would have been infinitely better if no human characters had been involved in it at all, even without any dialogue, a lone Predator hunting Aliens to clean up its mess is a good idea, but throw humans into the mix and we get this abortion of a film.

Completely devoid of any tension whatsoever, a poor cliched script, and an ending that suggests that AVP3 might be a possibility.........

One thing i did like about it though was the way that the Aliens were actually puppets/costumes like they used to be in Alien/Aliens as opposed to the crappy and non-frightening CGI ones that we've had to endure in Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and AVP1.

Here's a message to the idiot(s) at Fox who keeps greenlighting these terrible films: Stop ruining 2 classic franchises at once! Stop it now before it's too late!!!

i thought the 1st avp was alot better and had better actors. avp r was just a cheap low baudget movie.

are they trying distory the franchise ?

I'm looking forward to watching this one and will hold judgment until after I've seen it. I've a feeling I will enjoy it but let's see.

Just come back from seeing it, enjoyed it, thought that after the initial opening it did slow down though, for the character introduction and devlopment of them.

Deaths were brilliant, even though I had seen them on the trailer they were infinitly better than the first one.

Overall thoroughly enjoyable action romp, though the lack of a plot does let it down considerably.

3/5

Im so excited about going to see this film!!! It gets one star in every rating I have read, so no doubt it will be pure unadulterated entertainment!!

I haven't seen it but was so afraid of this being another trashing of two great concepts.

It bugs me so much that an AVP movie done by a good team could turn out to be awesome. There is so much inspiration out there on the AVP idear.

I want to see it yet I don't now.

Prehaps I'll make my own version.

Anyone got a Predator suit for a short person!!!
