avg gas mileage for 1997 jeep grand cherokee?

I thinking about not trading in my jeep to buy a van to save gas. will a later model van be a better investment or would i be better off selling it and paying cash $5000 for a later model.
 
I could answer the first part of the question If I knew which engine you had in the '97 grand cherokee. If it's the 4.0L inline 6 expect no better than 15 city, 20 highway. The V8 will get a few less, probably 12/18mpg.

most vans won't do much better in the fuel economy department, but they can usually haul more stuff.
