I am just under 250 lbs and i would like to get back incorporate bike riding (loved it as a child) as part of my diet and exercise plan (down from 320). My question is, will the average bike support me at 250 lbs? I am not looking to do any serious trail riding or anything like that, just basically looking to ride the bike half way to work than stick it on the bike rack of the city bus and take that the rest of the way maybe 2 or 3 days a week totaling approx. a 5 km ride each time. Also, if anyone could recommend what i should look for in a bike for a guy my size. I am 5'11 and 22 years old if that matters. Thanks in advance for any help.
I have read before that there is a major difference between steel and aluminum frames in terms of how sturdy it is.. most bikes i see around here are aluminum which seems less strong. Is it something i should worry about?
