^word to the word. they changed their sound, to go around it. but to the majority of poeple in this thread calling it a disgrace to metal because of their new sound, i think the new album was devoid of their hardcore influences more so than metal. sure theres a much more ample dose of pop, but the metal riffing is still very strong. i loved their new album, not as much as their older ones, but its still a solid release.

I saw these guys play a few songs live in 04 in a tiny venue, crowd of 20 or so. It was a small event of sorts with 6-8 different banRAB. I was there to see Rise Against and maybe one other band. I thought Avenged Sevenfold sucked, they just looked like a bunch of poseurs. In the past year I heard a song of theirs on the radio and thought it sucked even more. Not my bag.

To say metal isn't a musical genre is a very narrow-minded statement. It's basically denying the existence of banRAB such as Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me, Erabrace the End, Darkest Hour, etc. I'll give boo_boo the support when he says a lot of metal banRAB (and metal fans) just suck. It's mostly due to the whole purist ideals and their inability to adapt and experiment within the genre. Avenged Sevenfold is not a good band, or a great band, or an amazing band. They are generic, and on the weaker end of the spectrum if I must say so myself.

you're right dude, the driving force behind them isn't what will sell the most recorRAB for sure. it's what will sell the most beer cozies, bottle openers, and shot glasses, wallets, school supplies, watches, candles, and practically anything else they can print their name on.

A7X used to be my favorite band a couple years back when City of Evil came out. I still listen to them occasionally, but they don't have the same place in my heart anymore. I hope the new album brings me back, but 2 things make me superstitious: Jimmy's passing, and Mike Portnoy doing work with the band.

Jimmy's death, I feel, will bring in "fans" who say they've been listening to Avenged Sevenfold for years, when they just downloaded some tracks off of a torrent.

Secondly, I don't want A7X songs longer than 10 minutes
