Avatar ??

the great luddite revolution?

its annoying when people tar cgi mindlessly as if it were like claymation...a static technology. cgis limits are only the tech of the day and the brilliance of the minRAB doing it. it continuously gets better in a way that no other fx tech has matched. you might claim something was done before its time, but thats just the risk when you reach high.

Beautiful song, and the video has really made me excited for the movie. The clips look stunning, and there's something about it that doesnt come across in the trailers but the characters do look REALLY real.

Read the comments after the review. Rather like aintitcool.com's rave review of Roland Emmerich's Godzilla, the more controversial reviews have a habit of not being posted forever for posterity online! Wonder if that Avatar review will disappear one day? ;)

I do hope Avatar is good though, not least because I've already paid

As mentioned, I've got a ticket for Avatar, the first screening in Edinburgh, on Wednesday at 8.45pm, and I think it will be a good film, as JC doesn't make bad ones, especially given the amount of money on the line. But that empire review concerns me.

Blimey! They must be confident of it being a success considering it's now being reported that Sam Worthington has signed on for 2 sequels..........

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out imo. I'm not expecting a work of genius in regard to Cameron's scripting but it'll be a thrill ride of a movie experience. For me personally, the last film to make my jaw gape would have to be the LOTR trilogy and something in my mind tells me that this film will do the same........

I think the song is what Leona neeRAB to rescue her faltering career in the U.S. but that's OT here so I'll just say that some of the clips used in the vid made me catch my breath. Stunning seems like an understatement.

Not being rude, but that means nothing; Brendon Routh was up for multiple superman films for example. It's basically so he can't hold 'em up for more money if they decide they want a sequel.

Whatever people's thoughts on the design of the aliens, the level of detail in Avatar is astonishing.

2 minute high definition clip:

I think the film has set a new standard for level of detail in a CGI film. I hate to think how many hours it's taken to make the film! I think it's a shoe-in for an Oscar for best CGI effects.

Plus, the facial animation of the CGI aliens isn't done by animators, it's the real actors' performance transferred to the CGI models so when you see Jake in alien form, that's Sam Worthington's real facial mannerisms. This technology has never been done before in a CGI film so in this respect Avatar is groundbreaking. If you still think the aliens look crappy, well fair enough! Blue smurfs with long legs. :D And if you don't like Avatar and its CGI, there is Toy Story 3 out next year. :)

It looks like overrated Sci-Fi nonsense, and definitely looks like, from the trailer, cheesy cutaways in video games.

However, I want to go see it in 3D because I have yet to see a full film in 3D.

hehe I wont say anything bout it lol, but yes I totally agree about the clips. I don't think the trailers will do this movie any justice at all, I can see word of mouth will probably make this movie a total smash. It looks visually beautiful, I wish our world looked that nice! haha.

Saw it this morning at 10am at Cineworld in Dublin in 3D.

It doesn't drag. The world is beautiful. The 3D and CGI are perfect.

But...

As I read in one review, I cannot see myself watching it again. The story is beyond predictable and rehashes many of Cameron's previous sci-fi themes with cliched characters and by-the-book plot points. I've watched Terminator, T2 and Aliens any number of times. I've watched Titanic twice and even The Abyss maybe three times (including the special edition just to see).

I cannot see myself embarking on this again. It's just too plot-lite.

I have just got back from seeing it at the Imax 3D Wimbledon and all I can say is fekin' brilliant.

I'm a frequent cinema goer and have seen so many hyped up disappointments over the years but this was not one of them.

I have not enjoyed a spectacle like this since seeing Star Wars for the first time 32 years ago.

The Na'vi cannot be CGI, for I reckon Cameron spent the money getting them in from Alpha Centuari. It looks that good.

Go see for yourselves.

Just going to see it in 3d today. it looks OKAY, spectacular, but a tad hollow and drawn out, but im stll looking forward to seeing the overgrown smurfs :D
