Avatar Extended Edition

I've just seen an add on tv for the extended version with 8 extra minutes which is gonna be in cinemas from Friday 27th.
I know this is common practice when it comes to home release, but this has got to be a first when it comes to a cinema release. ( apart from Star Wars of coarse)
Is anyone going to go and see it again in the cinema just to see these extra 8 mins?

I really enjoyed Avatar in the cinema (saw it in IMAX 3D) but I wouldn't go and see it again for only 8 minutes of additional footage. Seems absurd to release it again at the cinema like this.

typical James Cameron tradition..Aliens SE, Abyess SE, Terminator 2 SE - but they where always on video, and not on cinema,
i think this is his way to bump up ot BO takings to 3 billion $$$.
but i would like to see it again on the cinema - and at the IMAX. I tried to see this in December at the IMAX Manchester - but it was sold out for weeks on end. felt i missed out on the true experience of this movie without seeing it at an IMAX.
but nearest one to me now is Glasgow, and they are only showing it at night.
so maybe not.

only eight minutes though?
seems like a bit of a waste, but good for those few people who didn't see in the cinema
probably wait until it's out on dvd, when perhaps it get's a PROPER dvd release

I think this has to be the swiftest "special edition" re-release I've ever heard of. And with such a small amount of off-cuts put back in, a really cynical attempt to get more money. The sad thing is, it'll probably work.

I saw it at a Vue in 3D and then at the Waterloo Imax, and myself and my friend really didn't see much difference between the 2. (Apart from more comfortable seats by far at the Vue!)

Won't be going to watch it just for 8 mins.

The SE release was first discussed way back in Feb. when Avatar was prematurely pulled out of cinemas to make way for Alice In Wonderland. World-wide the cinemas were saying that Avatar had another 4-6 weeks left in it but because of the restricted number of 3D theatres and the contracual obligation to show Alice there was no choice. So it was decided to re-release Avatar at the end of the summer and to add in a bit extra so as not to be seen to be just re-releasing the same film. That said, 8 mins is pretty poultry. Cameron's SE's usually have a lot more than that added for the SE. I would expect to see a full SE with 30-40mins of extra material for Xmas.

How prophetic! An SE DVD has been announced, due November. Not the anticipated 3D version, though. This 2D SE will have 16 mins extra footage and the following 3D version (some time next year) will have even more. As the DH headline reaRAB - 'Avatar out-whores Lucas'! :)

But to be fair to Cameron and whichever studio made the film, if there are morons that will keep paying for these extended editions good on them for taking these imbiciles for as much as they can get.

Don't bother with watching Avatar Special Edition in cinemes. It's nothing but a huge con to line up James Cameron's pockets with even more cash.

Yes it contains nine new minutes of footage. Because what

I managed to stay awake for 80 minutes of Avatar today before pressing eject.
Nice to look at on Bluray , probably stunning in 3D but as an interesting story -forget it.

I will try and struggle through the last 80 minutes next week , so I can live without another 8 minutes

I'm curious as to what people are expecting in those 8 minutes?

Even if it's an 8 minute scene it's hardly going to dramatically change and improve the film is it? More than likely it's going to be a minute or two here or there that unless you've seen the thing hundreRAB of times you won't even notice what bits have been added. Even 16 minutes won't make a difference for the same reason.
