Well your pictures are too small to see anything which is a problem. If you are complaining about colour balance issues i don't see any in the full size screens shots. Each film has its own artistic colour palette design, star wars was gritty realism/future whereas avatar was hyper real fantasy scifi. So to compare their colour choices is really not going to really go anywhere. Its not really about opinion if you have objective screenshots. As for detail, you can't judge detail without full sized images, preferably scaled to 1080p so one can make out the minute imperfections, we aren't using computer monitors with exact 480p resolution after all.
 
I got the Blu Ray version on Friday, was disapointed at no special features but the quality is outstanding, by far the best Blu Ray i own, the DVD version with it was shocking in comparison, i gave it to my sister :D

I was surprised that the film was in Fullscreen I.E no black bars, it made it even better :D
 
I reckon 3d will be slow to catch on - but will eventually.

I watched Avatar on blu-ray last week and can honestly say - in some scenes I did miss the 3D effect.

3D tvs will be expensive to start with - but once the initial "early adopter" market is exhaused - they will quickly come down in price (just like blu-ray did). Eventually I reckon most LED/LCD tvs will come 3D enabled as standard - afterall the technology behind them is nothing new. I have a pair of LCD shutter glasses that I used on my PC to play games in 3D about 10 years ago (only reason I dont now is because they arent compatible with my LCD monitor - refresh rate is too low).

The PS3 being 3D enabled is also likely to make the transition easier - like it did for DVD-->blu-ray, and thats to say nothing of the potential impact of the games market. Gaming in 3D - especially FPS and racing games is a whole new experience.
 
Also times that by 2,3,4 or 5 etc depending on how big your family is.
Or even if say you go to stay at a frienRAB or relatives for a while and they have a swanky new 3D tv, but you cant watch as there is not enough glasses to go around.

3d technology TVs i mean. i believe this will go down and remembered in history as the Digital Revoloution's most expensive Failure.

whose gonna give up, not only their new expensive Bluray players, but their recent LCD/Plasma/LED TVs for 3d?????

it hasnt even proved its worth at the cinemas yet! okay okay, so Avatar made a QuidrillionBillionBillionBillion dollars because of the 3d experience. But so? what else have we got to compare it all to? loaRAB of kid CGi films, Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans? i cant fathom out how those movies alone have warrented this rise and interest for the need for 3d TVs.
 
I got the Blu Ray a few days ago.

There are no extras at all, but I don't really mind, to be honest. Nothing very exciting about watching a bunch of guys in lycra jumpsuits with dots on their faces running around an empty studio to a green backdrop.

Another advantage is that there will be no compression issues, with all of the available data and space going towarRAB improving the pic and sound quality.

And to be fair it does look and sound excellent. I don't want 3D, I found it too distracting in the cinema.

And watching it a second time, I enjoyed it a bit more, it's good to be able to take time to look for little details you may have missed first time round at the cinema.
 
Took 12 years to do and is the highest grossing film ever, and this is a suprise to you?:rolleyes: It is called business. It will help finance the sequel.
 
My Avatar DVD from Amazon dropped through the letter box this morning. Not bad for two days ahead of release. Should be good this evening, my GF, her sister and mom are all round and they're all tree-huggers, so it'll be good to see their reaction when the big tree topples. Heh heh heh.

The difference in quality is staggering. Best quality Blu ray yet. I do feel that there could have been another disc with some extras on but for anyone who cant wait until later in the year or for those that are not willing to shell out extra money for those extras then the Blu ray is well worth buying.

i dont normally make any good points!!!

but i got nice new sparkling LED TV in Febuary, and there is no chance of me giving this up until it

A - breaks
B - is stolen or destroyed in a fire

cant see anybody who have just recently spent over 100 squid on a bluray player dropping that for a 3d one.
I dont even think normal blurays have proven their worth yet. (i personally am not overly impressed with Bluray)
its all madness.
