Avatar DVD

Well I only have the normal one not Blu-Ray but there is nothing at all on my dvd in terms of special features, when you switch it on its just there's a thing about piracy or something then straight to Play, Set Up and Scenes.

I have orered the Blu ray from play and it has already been dispatched so should arrive by Saturday. Does anyone know if there are any special features. All the websites seem to indicate no special features at all which is really odd for such a big release.

I so have to agree.
I watched the Blu Ray last night then when it finished I stuck in the DVD just to see what it looked like upscaled and OMG! the difference was massive.
On Blu Ray, my jaw dropped at the spaceship scene at the beggining as it was absolutely stunning which worRAB just do not do it justice.
The DVD just looked rather washed out with no detail.
If only all Blu Rays were up to this standard.

I watched the blu-ray myself the other night and have to admit that it's the best I've seen so far. It totally lenRAB itself to the format.

I would imagine that some of the detail is completely lost on dvd such as scenes where the characters are way off in the distance but still clearly visible.

Nobody has been 'ripped off' here........ When the release date was announced a couple of months ago it was clearly stated that this was a barebones/no extras release and that an 'ultimate' edition with extended versions and hours of extras will be released in November.

No release date has been announced for a 3d blu-ray yet and there will be no 3D DVD as JC wont allow this to be released using the crappy cardboard glasses.

Just got the bluray. The picture quality is stunning. I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would as I saw it in 3D IMAX. The 3d was a treat in the cinema but it certainly isn't a dealbreaker for home viewing. As for special features, I have a whole bookcase of 2 disc special editions that I've never put the second disc in. I buy movies for the movies. This a movie to show off your set up!

Star Wars
Avatar
For me personally the opening scene of Star Wars is very bright and shows good detail on the ships. I dont find that the Avatar DVD provides as good of a picture compaired to some other DVRAB. Now possibly that could be to do with how much compession they had to use to fit the film on the disc due to its size.
It is just my personal oppinion and dont expect anyone esle to agree and im sure most wont anyway.

What I can't understand is, there's been 3D movies on DVD/Blu-Ray before - is this some new type of transfer that's going to be on Blu-Ray?

I can see Cameron also releasing a standard 3D version too if this is the case, for standard HDTVs

Although I'm not a fan of the film the OH wanted to watch it again so I bought the blu ray on the way home from work last night. Haven't watched it yet but popped it in when I got home, and I have to say it is stunning. Played the dvd too just to see the difference, and what a difference!!! The DVD was crap compared to the Blu ray.
