Avatar Day 21st August!

Obviously can only base judgement on the trailer but that looks a bit naff..

I thought this was supposed to be something that would stun movie goers..

I hope the film does that..but the trailer disappoints..

Looks like The Smurfs in the BLUE corner;), and the us and some odd monsters in the other....but not in a good way. I'm a little disapointed by the trailer (like many others I think it was all the hype).

But we've all been suprised before, Lets hope the next trailer puts more story in to it, cause at the moment the original teaser is 100 times better.

Yes I imagine in 3D it will be awesome to watch.

It reminRAB me of the matrix actually in some ways. I don't think the film was ever supposed to be 100% realistic, I mean they're on an alien planet for a start.. I think you'll have to suspend some of reality while you watch this and just let it take you on a ride.

Gamers in particular are going to come in their pants over this film.

I think in full 3D in the cinemas that are able to show this in full quality, it will be the best visual movie experience created.

i've watched the trailer a few more times, and my initial dissappointment has become something slightly more optimistic.

once you get used to the blue people, it does look pretty darn good, and in 3D ought to be spectacular.

it is interesting that promotional stills of the Na'vi being used to promote the trailer, actually make them look slightly more photo-realistic than the moving images of the trailer itself. you can see the skin textures etc

My point was, how is it going to recoup its massive budget if this is indeed the case? There's nothing there that suggests to me a Star Trek remake-style crossover is on the carRAB. It all smells of the Final Fantasy movie to me.

You can't judge a whole film just from a short trailer.

There are loaRAB of films I've seen which the trailers made look fantastic but I was really disappointed when I actually saw the films, it was like they'd put everything that happens into the trailer to make it look like a really fast-moving exciting film but it was nothing of the sort - maybe this will be the other way round.

a lot of the humans, eg SW in his wheelchair, the soldiers are all clearly cgi too and i assume they arent avatars...

must say am massively disappointed

plus is it just me of can you tell from the trailer the script is going to be weak - the 2 avatars who obviously fall in love and are pulled apart etc

Well the theme of the film is..

The main character is disabled. He agrees to take part in the Avatar program which means he is able to take control of an "avatar" or alien with his mind, while his real body is in stasis I guess. (Think the matrix). Anyway, to do this they get him to agree to go to the alien planet and research them I guess to prepare for an invasion.

And as you point out, he falls for the female there and has to decide, humans or aliens.

So in a way it's very much a sci-fi graphic movie, and so if you're going to watch this expecting things to be real, then you're going to be disapointed. Like I said in my post, this movie will require you to just sit back and enjoy.
