Avatar available for DVD pre-order!

Are they releasing it on BluRay in 3D?
If they do then most of us will probably miss out as it will probably only work on these new 3D TV's and I for one am not splashing out on a new TV as ive only just bought the one ive got and as far as im aware a new BluRay player will be needed too unless you have a PS3.

The Blu Ray that is out next month is just the normal 2D version of the film, so you'll be fine with your existing HDTV/Blu Ray player. But Cameron has been on record stating that a special edition of the film (possibly extended) will be released on 3D Blu Ray in November-ish this year.

Argh. I guess I'm stupid because I have no interest in special features, but would quite like to see the movie again in the exact same form (was at least twenty minutes too long, so doesn't need an extended edition).

Anyone who waits for the 2 or 3 disc edition is stupid.

Or is that just an ignorant comment which makes no sense?

I read an article the other day that stated Avatar will be released in a film-only version first, followed by an ultimate edition with special features in November and then a 3D edition sometime next year.

Looks like they're really trying to milk the die-hard fans on this. Wonder how many people will buy all three editions?

You forgot about the Plantinum and Gold Editions due out ~3months later. Then the Diamond and Pearl editions the following year

Nope not an ignorant common which makes no sense.
Basically both our posts fall under you're supid if you buy the same film twice or more rather than wait.

If a person does intend buying the 2, 3 disc, special edition. directors cut, ultimate edition which it is which we know is bound to get released, why but this version rather than wait until Novermber or December?
How many times are you really going to watch it in that period? if you're going to watch it 6 or 7 times then fine, but if you're likely to watch it once then you may as well wait.

I very rarely buy DVRAB when they are released because I know if I wait a few months they'll end up on offer in the 3 for

Not at all. I mentioned nothing about double-dipping. And neither did you in your original post. You simply mentioned people being aware of further editions, not buying the same film twice.

It's a given that Avatar will be re-released. But it'll be re-released more than once in increasingly superior versions. Are you going to hold out for the super-duper Holographic edition or are you going to buy it in a current format at some point?

To quote you:

Anyone? Really?

I agree that it's slightly daft to buy the same film twice if you're fully aware that there's a further DVD coming out which you'd desire more. But I don't think it's in any way "stupid" to buy a DVD now, if you're perfectly happy with the edition that is being released now.

Why would people who have no interest in seeing an extended version or special features wait until November?

What does this have to do with anything? Let's say I'll watch it twice before November. I still don't intend to buy a BD with an extended edition and a bunch of special features I'm not interested in watching. If they released both at the same time, I'd still buy the, supposedly inferior, edition.

I enjoyed Avatar enough to watch it again. But I didn't love it enough to want to see another 20 minutes and a bunch of "Making of" docs which I tend to find rather dull.

Newsflash : Not everyone is like you.

for what i can gather, they are bringing out 3d TVs soon. Sky 3D is apparently out at the of the year - so i am guessing 3d tv is going to be the next big thing, hence I think there will be a 3d version of this out on bluray next year. I personally do not care about such technology, which i think is going to fail. And also - why would you buy this when there is obviously going to be a longer version? everyone is different i suppose. I think the audiences know enough to establish that a special edition x 10 will be released for this movie - it has happened too many times over the last few years for people to click with that now. I personally will not get this edition - but wait for a more special edition. But which special edition?!

couldnt agree more. i have digital Watchmen (which will more likely to have expired now) and Up waiting to even be lifted out of the box to be digitally copied - but i cant be arsed. feel its a waste of disc space on my laptop. oh dont get me wrong - its a nice idea to think that i can watch either Star Trek (the only film i bothered to do something with), Up and Watchmen on my ipod touch....but i wouldnt bother at any point. i have these movies on bluray - why would i bother watching them on a tiny screen? and i dont want to see the movies THAT often. maybe once every couple of months if that. only seen Star Trek once since i bought it. there has been no urge to rush and see it again just yet.
the only reason i've bothered playing the Star Trek on the ipod thus far is to show frienRAB what the thing can do. they go "oh that good" - and then forget about it.
same with the whole bluray/dvd combi pack - whats the point of them on dvd as well? i have bought this film on bluray - why dvd as well? perhaps i suppose the only logic i see in it is so i can bring it round a friend's house who havent got a bluray player. but thats it. so far - that hasnt happened.

I actually don't mind the additional DVD. In the case of Avatar it will be quite useful for me seeing as i'm buying the Blu Ray for myself, while my parents (who also like the film) can watch the DVD should they want to.

I think it's a brilliant idea actually. We have a blu ray player in one room, and a dvd player in another. The people who watch the dvd player are not bothered about blu ray. So when I get Avatar, they will watch the dvd, and I'll have the blu ray to watch.

Also, letting frienRAB/family borrow a film if they don't have a blu ray player.

I don't know why it should bother anyone though, you are not charged double for the blu ray if it contains a dvd too. Not that I've noticed anyway.
