The only immersion I felt was the superficial immersion of the 3-D glasses. True immersion comes as a result of character development, of which there was nearly none. The feelings of morality which we as the audience were meant to feel were essentially spoon fed to us. It's a simplistic story with an underlying message about respecting nature that has been done before. I frankly just didn't care much about what happened to any of the characters at the end of the day.
The story itself doesn't go beyond the norm, it is the norm. I felt as though I had seen this movie dozens of times before, only on a less technologically advanced level. This film deserves every technical award it will inevitably get, but this kind of bland storytelling should really not be championed. If you enjoyed the film, more power to you, and you're obviously not alone, but I would trade all the bedazzlement a computer can muster for a beautifully composed script.
I also don't want to seem as though I'm bashing this movie just for the sake of being different. I'm just expressing my genuine opinion. I'm not looking to convert anyone to my way of thinking.
