after 3rd time. any other precautions? once i'd been alerrted by avast i pressed 'abort op' option followed by 'move to chest'. when i clicked the latter i got a windows diagnostic page so clicked the 'back button' (top left of screen) and on the third attempt avast finally sent files to the chest. in my log viewer i now have 13 files with above virus(as well as other files from the year). also within the chest in 'infected files' i have the files in their also. their also in my history folder. is their any steps/precautions i can follow. i heard a scan in 'safe mode' is worthwhile and looking in the 'restore folder'???. i only have avast (set on auto scan daily) and windows defender. (recently had symantec norton till they ceased joint service with my bt contract). any ideas? would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

Yes it would be a good idea to scan in safe mode, then if the files are not critical delete them from the virus chest.

Are you using the paid for version of avast as it normally stop virus's from downloading at all?

see this question proves that free anti virus programs and not the best ones to use. now your in this answer room asking people for advise on solving your problem and waiting for a response. i always use paid programs, this way i call the software tech support lines and speak with a live phone tech person to help me with the problem, not some emailing response.
