Avantgo and the like ...

HI!

Just wanted to know what you guys thought about Avantgo and other types of PDA-Net syncs ... Is it worth the trouble? Are there any other ones you would recommend other than Avantgo? What works for you? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I use Avant-Go everyday to read the freely available newpaper content such as in the UK, Guardian online, The TImes, BBC, ITN etc. Some of the other content I am not impressed with as it doesn't seem to be updated that much.
 
beside Avantgo, I download Avantgo but it won't sync, eventhough everything went well in Microsoft Active Sync 3.7.
However, when I check my HP Jornada 525, nothing was downloaded.
Plz help
 
I have been using Avantgo for 3 years now and love it, it has numerous channels for your needs, IE, Sports, News, Weather, portals for local access etc. I strongly reccomend it and it also has the ability to expand your channel size....

Can you describe your problem with the syncing in more detail?
Does it sync and all the links are ther ebu then none of the pages loaded. Or does it just not connect. Or does it look ok except there are no channels.

I can help you trouble shoot but it would take some more details.
 
First, I have HP JOrnada 525, I'm using MS Active SYnc 3.71. Everytime I sync, it says "0 of 1 item is not synchorized" at the right of the Avantgo Connect Icon, then after that it sync and it says "synchronized." Then I go to my Pocket Pc and Launch Avantgo Connect, all i got is the activation page, so I click on favorite, all I see is the link Avantgo Channel. I clicked on it, it linked me back to Avantgo Activation page which instructs how to get it. So I launched IE like it says but it only linked me back to the activation page. I cannot find any Avantgo channel at all.
I checked the configuration of the device, the port is 80, the server is "sync.avantgo.com" I check the box "connect to this device when synchronization" and also check the box "refresh content on next sync."
Everytime I click sync, everything happens ok but nothing comes up in my Pocket PC.
ANother weird thing I went online and check my account, it says that none of my subscribtion channel is currently on my device. ALso when I checked synchronization history, it said that "the most 3 recent synchronization is listed below" I clicked detail but nothing comes up at all.
Another weird thing I found so far is even though it says installation is complete when I installed Avantgo Connect 3.3 version. But everytime I go into MS Active Sync/Tool/Add/remove, the check box on Avantgo Integrated is never checked. I check my device, there is no Avantgo Integrated program in the Add/remove windows. Then I checked the box on MS Active SYnc on the Avantgo Integrated so install again. It did fine, but my device said that I already have Avantgo Integrated, if I install again, my program will terminate it.
This is all I got, plz help. I'm so desperate n pissed off right now.
 
A bit late to this discussion BUT, I have avant-go set up on Palm TE. Was ok and syncing but then switched the primary PC to another PC . Now cannot sync Avant-go on the 1st PC. Question is can you only sync Avant-go on the primary PC or can you set up another PC to sync?

Allgire is right - "Plucker" is amazing and especially in conjunction with "Sunrise" which used to be "J-Pluck."

Both are freeware (not much longer; the author is designing his OWN viewer for the handheld which will be amazing . . . until then Sunrise/Plucker won't cost you a nickel).

The speed and flexibility of getting either regular sites daily or new ones on the "fly" is terrific; if you use Firefox browser there's a plug-in, and plucker looks great on the handheld.

For simple stuff like weather, movies, restaurants and news, and automatic pre-defined downloads (1st Hotsync after 9AM Mon Wed Fri, etc) - then TealAgent is fine . . . but for specific detailed websites "x" number of levels deep with beautiful output on the handheld, nothing beats Sunrise/Plucker.
 
I used to sync AVG at home and at work all the time, so two PCs shouldn't be an issue.

I assume you installed same version AVG (& Palm Desktop) on both PCs?

Are the PCs on same network? If not then did firewall settings change for the one that no longer works?

I would try re-installing AVG on PC where it does not work, as this usually fixes the issue.

And if all else fails you might consider re-installing Palm Desktop.
