Automatic Bluetooth pairing on Android 1.6

Hi guys,

Is there a way to make a G1 with Android 1.6 pair to a device automatically once it's in range? This is a feature every phone I've had previously was capable of, and I'm finding no way to make this happen. Do I need to download a 3rd party app to make this work or is it not even possible? I use bluetooth in my car and I'd like to have it automatically pair to the handsfree system without me having to navigate BOTH my G1 and my car stereo to make the connection every time. Thanks for any pointers you can give me.

The auto connection also depends on the headset. That being said, I haven't tested a BT headset that didn't autoconnect --- the prob is if your G1 is already connected to another device, it won't know to disconnect and then connect to your care system. That's the limitation of BT technology.

When I need to use my BT speaker (designed for Nokia) my G1 will always auto-connect with the speaker. Are you saying you have to go into your BT settings and have it scan every time? You should only have to do that once, and then the device should be on your list for auto-connect.

Welp, thanks to you guys, I realized I just didn't know enough about the bluetooth receiver in my car. It indeed had a setting to remember my phone and auto-connect whenever it's on. I tested it and any time the car is on, my bluetooth automatically kicks in. Thanks all!
