I currently work as a AutoCad mechanical engineering technician. I'm looking to move back to the city I grew up in which is 1500 miles away. I'm preparing my resume and getting everything together however I'm quite scared. I know the only chances of getting a job in another state is if you are in high demand. Makes sense, why would someone bother waiting for someone to make a move when someone is willing to stat next day.

Are my skills in demand? I know engineering has taken a hit with the economy but being a single male, I'm not asking for a lot of money.

i am a mechanical engineer expected to graduate in May 2009. I have been applying for jobs like crazy and there isn't much out there. If you are looking for a job drafting, there is very little out there in construction, as that industry in particular is doing poorly, but government jobs are always hiring. I recently landed a job with the Navy. My suggestion to you, is look for government jobs since they are always looking. Also I see in a lot of the backs of local newspapers in the classified sections Auto cad drafter wanted. I wouldn't give up. You will eventually find something, but get your name out there as much as possible. Wost case scenario, try to find a place like Man Power, where for a small fee will test your skills and guarantee you a job. good luck!!
