Auto loan, but no credit history? How do I get one?

Is there any way for me to get a loan for a used vehicle?
I have no credit history. I'm employed part-time with $5k-$6k annual.
I need a $4k loan.

My bank (USAA) will not finance me because I have no credit history (good or bad). They said I need to build up credit over a year or more before I'm applicable for a loan.

Does anybody have any ideas?
I am buying from an individual not a dealer.

I would get my parents to co-sign but my dad was an idiot and ruined his credit and my mother's. (No offense to him, besides, he would admit he wasn't smart)
I'm 20 and half way done with College. That's why my income is low... but I am very careful with my money. Unlike my parents.

You said that your dad ruined his credit and your mother's. I don't think it's not good if your parents would be the co-signers. Oh, do you hated them much? You should not. :more crackers:

You need to have patience. It will not change anything when you blame them for their bad credits. If you are mad at your parents, build your own credit. Prove yourself.
