Autistic Driving School

I think she would be ideal to teach pupils on part of the autistic spectrum but not too sure how she would get on with those at the higher fuctioning end. I was very interested in the mum who had Aspergers, I'd have loved to know whether she actually got back driving again. It was a very interesting programme and could have done with more episodes.

i found it very interesting also, i dont understand why people slag of that channel, because i have watched many great things on it.

I hope they do a folow up of the people involved

I've just watched it on Iplayer and it was an interesting programme. Would've been nice to have a few episodes and see more pupils or how the ones in this one got on after they passed and how Sarah got on with getting back into driving.

I ended up watching it because of the autistic driving instructor. It's so unusual that you see aspies/auties on TV who are independant, have made a life for themselves, and who are doing the talking rather than being talked about.

Personal pet hate of mine so you'll have to excuse me... but I'm not sure why all the comment from parents were necessary. These people were at least 17- why did their parents have to get involved? And be spoken to more often than the autistic people themselves, in some cases.
Perhaps I'm just daft, but I've always got a bit of a 'does he take sugar' vibe off the whole 'in a show about autistic people their parents must be onmipresent' type thing.

Yes, my annoyance about this does stem from a personal silly thing. I'll admit that.:o

just watching the programme now. very interesting. god I'd hate to have to take my driving test again - autism or no autism!

The instructor womans observations are amazing - eg, whether or not the button has been pressed on the pedestrian crossing! can't say I notice half that stuff!

Just found this thread.

Will have to watch this programme, my step daughter with Aspergers has asked me if I will teach her to drive. Luckily i have got another 15 months before she is 17 so I have a bit of time to think about it!
