Authors/Writers- Do you ever find writing about romance to be awkward?

My book has a romantic subplot, and sometimes writing about the romance can be a bit awkward. I don't know why- it's not like I'm afraid of love or anything.
Any tips? Does this ever happen to you?

It doesn't happen to me as much anymore, but it used to. My suggestion is think to yourself "ok, if I was reading this, what would I want to hear?" and more often than not, the awkwardness goes away.

I don't write romance, because the genre is such a throwaway, cliche area to begin with; I really wouldn't know where to begin to try to write it.

The only times it's awkward is when I'm too unexperienced in an area. I have just about zero experience, and so I sort of have to make up stuff along the way, from what I've read, or from what others have told me.

I think it's very hard to write about love without sounding tired and cliched, which is perhaps why you are finding it awkward. 'Love' is also difficult to define and put into words; It's a concept more than something tangible or measurable.

Well..i find it hard to take time to START writing about romance lolll!
I have this amazing idea of a novel in my head...all romance..but i cant start for the one reason of romance.

As far as your situation...maybe take sometime in reading other romance novels and get used to the words and emotions...then try thinking about your romance part..and see if you can connect and relate by using some of the authors ideas.

I've never been in love,(I'm only thirteen) so I find it really hard to write about romance. I try to steer away from it.

But I was reading this writing book, and it said something like:
"A lot of us have never been in love. So how do we write about it? Well, many of us have had crushes. When we write about love, we just need to take that crush to the next level."

Hope this helps!
