Austin TX

They already have service in San Antonio and are starting service in Houston and Bryan/College Station tommorow, so it wouldnt surprise me if they start in Austin also.

I would like to know what the coverage in Houston will be. How will it compare to other more traditional cell phone companies like Verizon and Cingular?

well it looks like Austin will be getting it pretty soon...i seen on the site it said Coming Soon along with the Temple and the Killeen area

umm the corporate office is in san diego (and no they don't have cricket there yet either). there are some administration offices in colorado now too, i think. as far as i know cricket's billing processor is the only thing in texas. the assurian call center that handles cricket is also in texas.

A cellular service provider can't just start offering service anywhere they wish. They have to purchase frequency spectrum space for their use from the FCC at auctions. That costs big $ and there is not much available. Most providers that have losts of coverage got that way by purchacing smaller companies and getting rights to frequency use along with it. Verizon, Alltel, are good examples of this. cricKet slowly but surely buying frequency rights as it becomes available. Whenever you see "comming soon to ......." you know that they bought more and have the network functional.

Pinky's has a sign up so you know it is almost here.

Wow what a rip. No LD included. Add 8 cents/min for ld (!). I don't know who would figure this to be a good deal but it sure is not me.
