I am a 23 year old female. About 4 years ago, I experienced my first migraine. Ever since then, I have gotten them at random times...not very often. They are always the same type of migraine-aura migraine. The funny thing is I really do not get a bad headache after the aura subsides...I typically get a very dull one-sided headache that lasts a few hours. However, for me, the aura is what scares the crap out of me...I feel like I am dying sometimes..I hate when my vision becomes distorted.
I have been taking ortho tri cyclen lo for about the past 8 years.
I just came across an article that states that people who experience aura migraines have an increased risk for stroke. Then I read further about how birth control also increases your risk for stroke. So now I have both aura migraines and I take birth control..so I must have a double increased risk for stroke.
Not too mention, aneurysms also are highly prevalent in my family
So now I am very nervous that I might have a stroke. If you were me, would you stop taking the birth control and try to find a non-hormonal method? Has anyone had any previous experience with this situation before?
