Hello! I plan to do a hip hop solo for the audition for So You Think You Can Dance.

Do any of y'all have any tips or advice for me? Thanks! :)

Well Hello to you! it's nice that finally some ppl on here are talking about SYTYCD :)

good for you for auditioning! i hope to in a couple of years myself ♥

BE YOURSELF. i cant stress that enough. Try to stand out...if the judges dont notice anything unique they will pass you by and say no. you need to have that quality that makes people look at you...

Some people on the SYTYCD boards posted some tips for a girl auditioning so i thought you might want to read them:

"You only get so much time to wow people, especially in the first round where you need to make your point within seconds...so it's best to do it with dance and do the best style you know.

And if you can improv, you're ahead of the game."

"For the first day, It's a group of 10, and if the majority of people are hip hop, then that style of music is played for the improv. Just something to keep in mind. I will say, this is a tv show, so it seems to me, you'd get more noticed with something unique that no one else seems to do. That being said, if you make it in front of the judges, I feel they'd probably want you to prove yourself in choreography so they can see you can do other styles of dance. I know I'm not a lot of help, but there's a few more things to keep in mind."

"Oh the actual televised part is extremely misleading. I'll tell you what I know from last year's audition, and some one correct me if I missed anything.

Day 1- Wait wait wait. At 8 am film a few shots of the first 40 or so people running towards the door. Get a couple of shots running down the line with a camera with everyone screaming. Then actual registration begins. You get your bag checked, hand in a release form, and they check your drivers license. Then you file into a huge auditorium and sit there until everyone has registered. Then after a brief introduction, auditions begin. In the intro you get the speech to "stand out, be unique, etc etc". In groups of 10 you go in front of the producers. They ask everyone what their style of dance is. If the majority of people say contemporary, then contemporary music is played. One at a time you improv for up to 30 seconds. By the way all of this takes place on a small portable dance floor, not on the actual stage. After your group of 10 has gone, they talk and then give a "gold ticket" to whoever they liked. If you get a gold ticket you go to another room and go through more registration. They check your song, have you dance for a bit on a camera, and assign you which day to come back for call backs.

Day 2 or 3- whichever day you were assigned, you come back (you don't do both, just one or the other). You'll have another improv section in front of the producers and I think judges too. Then after a few are eliminated, the actual solos in front of the judges start. From there you'll either be sent straight to vegas (actually extremely rare), or asked to stay for choreography. In choreography you get 10 or so minutes to learn a short routine, then perform it for the judges and they'll pick who they like.

And just so you know, you cannot bring anyone inside on day 1, but I'm pretty sure you can bring someone on day 2 and 3.

And on the clothing thing, most people wear the same outfit both days so the producers can think "girl in the blue top, we liked her, etc"

I'm quoting this info bcuz i dont own anything these people are saying! go on fox.com/dance for more info...if you post questions im almost sure people will be glad to help :)

i hope you do well and please let me know how it goes!! i hope for the best <3

Be yourself. It's not only the dancing, but your personality. Act crazy, bubbly and fun and get yourself noticed!

Try your best be nice to the gouges like don't talk back and look like u really want this

if you do what you love and put your heart in to it and do you best no matter what happens it will be the right thing so represent all of those dancers who cant go and audition and make them proud but even if you don't make it ill know that you have done you best............make them notice you
