You have no idea how many hours....even days, I have spent trying to get ringtones uploaded to my phone without paying $3 a pop for them. I looked everywhere and tried every solution I found, but to no avail. I had really about had it for another night when I saw your post and thought...."What the heck...probably a different carrier but I'll give it a shot anyway."
You are a GOD!
I've got an Audiovox 8910 with US Cellular as my carrier. I didn't think I'd EVER get past EasyEdge. Your directions worked like a charm. The problem I was having was getting the phone to see the ringtones I put in the directory. Like I said....I went about it in MANY different ways (and am QUITE surprised I didn't ruin my phone altogether). I did get one other way to work but nowhere near as well as the way you said to do it. What a mess. I had to picture message a ringtone to myself and save it to the media center. Something awful happened to the sound quality in that translation and it changed the file extension to some bizarre extension that I never heard of. You could barely hear the ringtone when the phone rang. I fixed that problem by overwriting the file sent to my phone with the original file on my computer. That fixed the low volume problem but there was a long delay in the start of the ringtone when a call was received.
Once again.....you saved me MANY HOURS of further searching and some pretty crappy sounding ringtone issues. I cannot thank you enough. I'm TOTALLY new to the cellphone modifying thing so I was completely clueless. Thank you again. You're the BEST!!!
I did have two other questions though. At the point where you go to Menu, 4, 1, ok, clr, should BitPim still be up and running with the phone connected through the cable. That's the way I was doing it but I don't know if it matters one way or the other. I certainly don't want to ruin the darn phone after finally getting this far. Also, do you need to do that for EACH ringtone you put on the phone or can you put, say, five tones in the directory and THEN do the Menu, 4, 1, ok, clr thing??
