b t w ......those things in the rocks that looked black.........was they painted or is that as they find them ?

That was a marvellous programme. Attenborough is a legend.

Incidentally, I see that First Life is broadcast on BBC2 on Friday 5th and 12th of November at 9pm. NOT 9am as it says on the BBC's own Attenborough page:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_9118000/9118606.stm

First Life will broadcast on BBC Two at 0900 BST Friday 5 November and Friday 12 November.

BST as well? No, we'll be back to GMT then.

Does anyone at the BBC have a clue these days?

What an energetic man for somone in his 80's.

If I ever live to that age I'll probably be drooling out of the side of my mouth whilst being spoonfed by a nurse.

Looking forward to watching the series.

Just the BBC showing a total lack of respect for anything truly interesting, informative and educational (as seems to be the norm these days).

I cannot believe it hasn't been made in HD, so I will be really pissed off if, after watching the SD version, it turns up in HD in a few weeks time. Unhelpful scheduling choices by the BBC.

I suspect it may not be in HD due to CGI. As the programme about Attenborough showed at the weekend, the subject matter is fairly reliant on using CGI to bring ancient fossils back to life. And I understand that one of the biggest barriers for shows like Dr Who going HD was it cost (both in time and computing power) significantly more to produce HD CGI models - so it was either fairly detailed SD models or unrealistic HD models (Torchwood anyone?)
