Attacked by a pit bull

The thing with that is there's a good chance that in the frenzy they'll turn and bite you. You don't want them anywhere near your face or throat.

Pitbulls with their bear trap jaw are especially har to pull off. When they get into a frenzy it's almost like their sense of pain shuts off. Kicking and punching has little or no effect.

Yeah, I figured as much. Just thinking out loud. I'll be the first to tell you dogs can be as fucking unpredictable as any animal, domesticated or not.

Did I ever tell about the time a dog of ours was choking to death on a bone, and I reached into his mouth to pull it out, and as soon as he could breathe again he lost his temper and tore the shit out of my hand?

It was propably in such confusion what was happening..But yeah all animals can act up.

I think pitbulls are illegal here, because of some incidents..like one that killed a baby because it was jealous of it, they had the dog before the baby and after the baby came it went nuts.

The best way to make your dog stop fighting is to grab it by the scruff and flip, or take em out by the legs. basically put them on they back, then you gotta hold them there until they give in. Showing dominance and telling them they should not fight in one trick. BUT watch out or that other dog XD!

My dog wasn't the aggressor, and i wasn't going to stick my hand on the pit bull again. the owner dove and and wrestled his down dog; and got more than a few bites himself in the process. My right hand is pretty useless today as it is.

Looks painful. Poor pup.

I'd suggest something like:
Dog Mace | Pepper Spray | Mace Muzzle Canine Repellent

I used to carry something similar when I took my pooch for walks, in my neighborhood a lot of people let their dogs roam free... talk about annoying. Used it more than once. Got bitched at by a couple of dogs' owners, bitched back for them not having their dogs on a damn leash.

I'd rather deal with a pissed off owner than have my dog (she was a very small dog) get killed because some careless dick decided to disrespect leash laws.

I hear ya, ferengi. If you don't know how your dog reacts around all kinds of other dogs, keep it on a leash in public. Molly loves to play with all dogs so she'll go running up to them if i don't keep her leashed... so i do.

Sorry that happened, Tost. Very brave of you to reach in between two fighting dogs. I wish you and Molly a speedy recovery.

Dog drama sucks. My avatar is a Boston Terrier named Roscoe. Funny story: he attacked a very, very fucking large pitbull once. It was a pretty chill pit bull, thankfully. Sorry to here about your experience, but I'm glad it didn't get worse. About your dog getting traumatized... I'm not Caesar Milan or anything, but I suspect it takes a great deal of unusual trauma,or prolonged/repeated trauma to have long term impact. In nature wolves fight, and dogs are wolves, so they are hardwired to be able to deal with a certain amount of it, I think.

By intervening on your dog's behalf, it very well may strengthen your dog's pack bond with you. Molly was probably more concerned with your well being than her own, so when she saw that you survived it probably alleviated most of the shock from the attack. I wish both of yall a swift recovery.

Sorry you were attacked, glad it wasn't worse. I had a pit, so there's no slant against pit-bulls in my question. Will they put the dog down? It doesn't matter what breed a dog is, if it bites a person, it should be put down. Do you make a complaint or do you risk the guilty feelings when someone else gets seriously mauled by that dog?

Hoping for a speedy recovery for you and Mollie.

Pit Bulls are fucking awesome. Hands down my favorite breed when bred and raised correctly. Awesome personalities and dispositions, smart as hell, and cheap to purchase.

But in the hands of assholes they are the worst breed out there.
