ATT EDGE - Getting a boost before Iphone?

Seems that ATT /Cingular Edge networks were not operating at full capacity. Now they plan to max it out before Iphone arrival.

READ HERE- OPERATION FINE EDGE

1. Good or bad or somewhat deceptive considering that many of the uninformed could believe Iphone is faster than competitors?

2. Why didn't they do this before?

3. What about TMO and other Networks- what are their current speeds?

Because, if you read what they are doing, It appears that it's an expensive upgrade/expansion of the backend hardware, not just a software update.

Hope this helps

I feel it also addresses Question # 1. How does Upgrading the speed of the network, have to do with comparing the speed of an Iphone, with that of a Blackberry, if they are on the same network. They may have decided to add capacity to the network, which appears to be what they are doing, to cover the added data users expected due to the Iphone. This is necessary in order to maintain data speed. The more people on the same tower equates to more congestion equates to less effective speed for every one.

And for number 3, TMO probably won't need it. They're not going to have any increase in customers due to the Iphone. More likely Less, and you will see a related increase in the data speed if you live in a congested area. So maybe not having the Iphone will be a blessing to those TMO users that don't jump ship.
