If your elgible for contract, then no matter where you go to get your new phone (at&t website, customer service, at&t corporate store, or at&t authorized dealer) , you will always get it cheaper. They only reason they will make you change your number is if you decide to add a new line to qualify for a contract upgrade. However, its totally your choice. They can't make you add a line.

So what you should do is go online and look around at phones or go to a store and then figure out what you like when your ready to upgrade. Then call at&t customer service by dialing 6-11 from your at&t phone, and an at&t rep. will complete the upgrade for you. They will always check to see if you are elgible for a contract upgrade before they tell you how much its going to cost you. So if your in doubt, feel free to ask anyway if you can get the phone under a new contract agreement

Hope this helps

I have the lg shine. the screen has been going black and i keep having to shut it off and turning it back on again. I've had it for over two years and should be able to get an upgrade. However, i have an account online and it says that i'm eligible for an upgrade, but when i go to look at all the phones, they are full priced. When you get an upgrade, isnt it supposed to be a lot cheaper? or even free? if i go to the store i'm afraid they are going to make me change my freaking number like they do all the time.
what should i do? i need a new phone =(

hhm...it usually is supposed to be a lot cheaper, but i don't think they'd change the #, tho. my advice is to call customer service. they'll have the answer. i really hope i helped!

What do you mean by "full price?" Full price is the no commitment price. You should be seeing the fully discounted price with 2 year contract. You do not have to change your number.
