I finally saw Atonement today since it just opened yesterday! The movie time my friend and I were supposed to see it at was sold out so we had to wait an extra hour and it was packed!

I was a bit nervous because the NY Times review was not good. But I must say whoever reviewed it from the NY Times must've been off their meds because it was amazing! I thought it captured the book wonderfully! It was just beautiful.I was all out crying at the end, even though I already knew from the book what happened.

I know this year is stiff competition for Leading Actor Oscars but James McAvoy was amazing! He just has to get nominated.I've loved him before but this was his best performance to date.I also loved all three Brionys...all gave great performance and I was actually really surprised by Romola Garai and how emotional her performance was.

I think I expected a bit more from Keira but I still liked her performance and I thought she and James had awesome chemistry.

I really can't say enough how much this movie lived up to my expectations! Boo to the NY Times!

I just saw the movie. I thought that it was really good, even though it was at points hard to keep up, when the fast forwarded to the future. Also James looked hot in this movie! :)

Go Atonement :) Totally deserved Best Picture and Best Score. The soundtrack is seriously on repeat on my computer.I love it.One of my favorite scores ever.

I love this film! I like how Briony gave Cecilia and Robbie their happy ending. I love them together.

Finally! I watched it!

It's still in theaters here so I made a last effort to catch this on the big screen and I did! :D

Oh my goodness, it was beautiful. I actually cried, I haven't cried in a movie theater in a LONG time.

Stunning performances by...everyone. Wow.

atonement was one of the best movies I ever saw.For weeks I couldn't believe it ended like this.I mean I kept repeating...it was so close,so close.they can amend it.If only time could go back!Their lives ruined for such a small detail!
I don't complain, actually this was the beauty of it.Breaking your head how such a misunderstanding can have this effect. And of course guilt.I had nightmares I was Briony!..

Thank you, guys  And Shay, thanks a MILLION again for the song, you're awesome

Thanks for the interviews! :yay:

The ending is very depressing, but I thought it made the entire movie seem more special in a way. I still don't like Briony very much, though.

I've been reading the book. When I first saw the movie I thought that Briony was just pure evil but reading the book; I've been able to get a sense of Briony and I'm starting to better understand her.

She wasn't evil like I thought- rather she was just a pre teen kid. Her [childhood] life had been so full of fantasies that as she was transitioning into adulthood, she still thought with a childish mind. Growing up isn't easy and there are times when we want our childhood ways to help in our adult lives. Briony saw some very adult scenes which she couldn't explain so rather than just asking Robbie or Cecilia about what went on, she decided to let her fantasy imagination take control of that which she had trouble explaining.

So far I'm enjoying the book.

 Yes, I feel like a lot of people have gotten caught up in Robbie/Cecilia, which is lovely and fine, but for me it was Briony's story. It followed her and her guilt, while the others were just a part of that.

Is the book good? Is it similar?

Sorry,my mistake...been awhile since I read it  In the book, does she tell anyone she was once was in love with him though? Perhaps I just remembered it completely wrong

And wow...Golden Globes not televised? That's interesting.I hope the same kind of thing doesn't happen for the Oscars :(

So this film has been playing nonstop on HBO for the last couple of weeks so I've watched it more than once. Now I know when it first came out, some people absolutely hated Briony but I just really can't figure out why! I know that it's horrible about how Cecilia and Robbie in the end couldn't be together but what happened was just a horrible mistake that a 13 year old girl made. She suffered the rest of her life right along with Cecilia and Robbie. The movie/book is called Atonement for a reason. It's about Briony atoning the mistakes that she has made. In the end she give Cecilia and Robbie their happy ending.

Agreed. The love story is actually just a small portion of the whole story. I also found it to be Briony's story for the most part. Her action was what led to the whole story, Atonement. Robbie's and Cecilia's stories were told by Briony, and the ending she fabricated for them helped her deal with her lifelong guilt.

Very, very good movie though. One of my favorites. Loved the book, too.

It won Best Drama film at the GG's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woot: :wiggle:  :yay:
