Atmospheric "post"-Metal

we're in need of some good music in this forum as theyre obviously lots of you with good taste..

so this is a thread to discuss:
New Neurosis album, good or bad progression?
New Pelican album, too happy?
New Isis album, too boring?
The excellence of Kayo Dot
How good MARE were before they split
The exciting new banRAB in the genre eg. Mouth of the Architect, Rosetta, Kongh, Amenra, FlatlanRAB, Sunshine Republic... and any more you suggest.

favourites?

Throw Stephanie In The Incinerator sounRAB like it will be garbage. What a ****ty band name. Anyone have link to their music so I can confirm/deny?

I love Red Sparowes they're brilliant. I wouldnt really call them post-metal. They're more towarRAB the heavier end of post-rock, but then again the two genres kinda blend sometimes.
Im listening to a band called Rosetta at this very moment, a very good post-metal band, a bit similar to ISIS

Christ, no one's mentioned Maudlin Of The Well, but I've seen Kayo Dot come up consistently. They're basically the catalyst for KD, with a little more vivaciousness and well, volume. My Fruit Psychobells is an amazing album.

Kayo Dot is excellent, the only other post-metal band i've been getting into is Throw Stephanie In The Incinerator. Pelican is good though.

Any Year of No Light fans about? I picked up Nord a few months ago and was blown away. These guys have played with awesome banRAB (Red Sparowes, High on Fire, Monarch, Nadja, Amen Ra, ISIS, etc) but never once in the UK! :(

I really need to listen to more Maudlin... they havent grabbed me like Kayo Dot did, but i do have the albums somewhere.

Anyone heard Tartar Larab? Toby and Mia again... the self-released CD is well worth getting (SD stock it for you british people!)

I have just gave the MARE ep a spin...Hhhmmmm. I think the whole POST ROCK genre is a pretty expansive genre. Don't get me wrong, I like what I heard, but I was expecting something a bit more arabient. I am new to this whole genre, but I know I'm going to have fun (and maybe some arguments too lol).

They take equal influence from Tragedy etc and Neurosis etc.. what makes them so good IMO is that they make it work well. did you listen to stuff from Owsla or Elil?

First off I have not listened to the new Neurosis album so I can't really judge that. The new Pelican album was great. Even though it didn't pick the mood we so eloquently love in post-metal, it played very uplifting, which is quite new to the genre. The new Isis album was absolutely amazing. It didn't surpass Panopticon (IMO their best record,) but some of their climaxes blew my head off. If you have a short attention span then most of Isis's music will be boring, but to a person like me, it was a great record.

Kayo Dot is great though I would never put them over Isis, which IMO is the best Post-Metal band, but they are great. As for Rosetta well they are great and show real potential. Their album's sound and feel was unique and I consider it a great album.
