ativan withdrawl? how to?

Hi, I was prescribed Ativan 1mg in the ER last week. I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and had a really bad panic attack because my dose of PTU (antithyroid meRAB) was too low. The doctor in the ER gave me Ativan to help with the anxiety. I've only taken 1/2 a tablet two times daily since last Wednesday, except for the 1st day where I took 2mg. I've only been on it 5 days total. I want to stop taking it and I was wondering how I should go about doing this? I guess the really bad withdrawl symptoms would only apply to someone taking it for a long period of time, no? Should I just taper off the amount I take for another 5 days or so?

You should not have to taper off it at all. With only being on it for such a short time and such a low dose i seriously doubt you would have any withdrawl symptoms.
 
Well I tried to stop, but was up two nights in a row with maybe only 2 or 3 hours sleep both nights. The worst insomnia I've ever had. I guess I need to taper the dose. The most I've ever taken is 2mg the first day. It's been about 1mg most days since then and I've only taken it for a total of 9 days. Any advice on how to taper (how long, how much reduction in dose every day, etc) would be greatly appreciated!
