Atheo-Buddhists! What separates you from "garden variety" atheists?

The idea that one can attain enlightenment. I think enlightenment is real. I doubt there is anything metaphysical going on, I think it is just a state of mind one can achieve with the right work.

I like the idea of karma, but in my experience no one seems to be enforcing it as a law. I think the universe is morally blind (or amoral).

Mostly I see Buddhism as a philosophy. If one doesn't have a religion, it is beneficial to have a philosophy.

Perhaps physics is more Devinne then one can imagine.
Karma = Cause and effect - a very physical reality yet also connected to Life and the cycles of Creation. We take this all for granted yet do not see the Mystery nor experience the Awe of creation because we are rather dead to it in our soul much of the time .

i dont know about karma, sometimes i kinda believe it, but other times it just seems more like things would have happened that way anyway

With all due respect to other Atheists who are not Buddhists, let me say my own opinion as a Buddhist. What I'm gonna say is my personal experience as a Buddhist. NOT as sth to compare or to belittle or to convert anyone. So, no offense intended.

As I practice the Dhamma or Dharma, i think the attitudes i have when it comes to dealing with difficulties in life have changed quite tremendously, which are incredibly important. When my attitudes toward the problems are positive, that is, i think positively, feel calm and confident, i can solve things quite easily. When I react negatively toward some situations, i become agitated and miserable. So, The Noble Eight-fold Paths are really important to me, starting from Right understanding, attitudes(or intentions), right speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and stillness. These elements work interdependently at the same time. So, I've proved for myself that Dharma incredibly helps me.

All beings basically want happiness and avoid sufferings. I don't think there's any separation between Buddhists and others who have different beliefs. Some people suit a certain type of religion. And, some suit the other. And, differences in life are just natural. That's life. That's my opinion.

Thank you.

May all beings always be well and happy.. =)
