Atheists: what's the best way to handle a friendly debate with a creationist when

At that point, it's no longer a friendly debate. It's an attempt at brainwashing. At that point you you should walk away. Tell them, "When you're ready to attempt to discuss this on mutually agreeable terms, we can resume our conversation."

Your debate with Christianity has already been solved -- You can watch it on YouTube -- it's called Christianity vs Atheism (it's a 15 part segment) but enjoy ...

47 Atheists want to know the Lord after the debate and -- 0 Christians wanted to be Atheists --

The way to win most formal debates with creationists--is to require within the debate that the creationist first establish that his creation story is the "correct" creation story. To many people allow the xtian creation story as "the one". If the creationist is forced to debate authenticity of his creation story first--he or she can't debate creationism vs natural forces--there on the defensive debating their own personal brand of creationism. You can really throw them some issues--divine book--but geez--weren't these stories plagarized from much older sumerian and egyptian myth--no? the epic of gilgamesh is a thousand years older than the noah story--and is identical in all major points--since the epic is older-doesn't that logially mean the bible writers stole the idea. King sargon--the moses story sounds suspciously like this mythical sumerian character. Ties em up in their underwear and leaves em sputtering--try it.

Why do you feel its your job to convince people of your views, What do you care. They are just as convinced their right as you are convinced your right. Don't waist your time. I didn't know there was a section titled Atheists on this site. You ask the question, anyone can answer is what I thought. Hum

you don't try, they don't listen, they'd rather have comfort in their lives from a book written by drunken primitive leaders

Given only what you post @Yahoo, not what you post elsewhere, I would say you can not even have a friendly debate, with anyone.

Before getting into the debate, say that you are willing to listen with an open mind - IF they are. They won't agree to that, and the debate will never occur. If it does occur, simply listen carefully to what they say and talk common sense.

"Tell me, why don't you believe in Odin and Quetzalcoatl?"

"BLAH BLAH BLAH BIBLE BLA BLAH GOSPEL BLAH BLAH PROOF BLAH BLAH EVIDENCE BLAH BLAH LOGIC BLAH BLAH..."

"Well, the same rationale you use for disbelieving such gods I use for disbelieving yours"

and end of story....

i usually just say something like, " shut the fuck up you stupid ignorant asshole!!!" and if that doesn't work, i punch them in the mouth...that usually does work. lol...

but seriously, i don't even bother with them...it's not worth my time.

Eleanor often counters with a heavy dose of sarcasm and equally mmagnificenttales she heard of as a child. Or bursting into out right laughter is also a good road to take.

Honestly, if they keep quoting the Bible, it's probably not a great time for a debate. You'll just end up frustrated with them. Maybe vise versa too.

if it is a debate then make them stay on one topic at a time. This way you can dissect and prove wrong each statement independently and they can't give their brute force attack.
