At what point in history did certain sins become "considerably worse" than others?

Call me crazy if you like, but, I have always been under the impression that in God's eyes, all sins were equally as bad. How is it then that one sin is considered to be particularly gruesome and unpardonable, and another sin is considered to be "lesser" or at minimum "not nearly as bad" (example: murder, pedophilia, corporate swindling and drug trafficking will all unquestionably "damn you to hell" - but manipulation, promiscuity, backdoor politics and bigotry - these and others on that same "wavelength" are all "OK")? Can someone please show me the passages in scripture that verify this? I know it's GOT to be in there somewhere...

There is sin and sin is to death. There is sin that is not to death.
The answer is through the atonement of Christ without which all sin is to death. When Adam ate of the tree of knowledge...(disobedience ot God) he intherited death. The reason Christ came to the word was to overcome temptation, sin and death as a man under law.

This is incorrect. There are two type of sins, mortal and venial. Not all sins are equally bad... here is some scripture:

1 John 5:16-17. If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.

Jesus speaking to Pontius Pilate --- "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."

So as you can see, even when Jesus speaks to Pilate, he mentions the terms "guilty of a greater sin". As such, if one can possess the greater of sin, then there must be one that possesses the lesser of sin. Thus, unless you are stating that Jesus' word is not accurate, then it must be true that there is varying degrees of sin.

God Bless...

So when did this delineation happen...? It's always been there, but Jesus came to Earth to teach us about the TRUTH.

Matthew 5:22 (King James Version)

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
