At what mileage should the FIRST oil change occur on a new 2010 Ford Focus?

Here is my problem...I want to do the best thing for engine break in, and the new Focus manual says change it at 7500 miles(which I think is far too much)....while the Ford dealer says 3000 is good...but he ALSO says it can be changed at 1500 if I want! ---What I would like to know is when is my engine fully broken in, and when should I convert to synthetic oil? And no one seems to be able to give a straight answer. It now has 850 miles on it. Also, I expect, when it is fully broken in to use full synthetic oil....and the dealer says I can do that at 1500 miles if I want. But what if the engine is not fully broken in when I put synthetic in...will that hurt it? Really looking for sound advice here on breaking my new car in the RIGHT way! Thanks
