At what level should i evolve my growlithe? (i have pokemon gold for gameboy)?

By the way, so you know, my growlithe is at level 59 right now (i kinda didnt knw from before that it'd only evolve into arcanine with a firestone, so i kept on leveling and leveling up). does arcanine learn certain moves that growlithe doesnt? if so at what level?
I googled online and found out that arcanine learns certain moves at level 49 (im not sure if it applies to pokemon gold)... though my growlithe isnt even evolved right now and yet its at level 59 right now...would my growlithe at lvl. 59 still learn those moves if i decided to evolve it right now into arcanine?
