At what age would you let your child ride in an open Jeep?

My husband just bought an old Jeep for fun. Our son is only 8 months old, and although he is already 26 lbs and in a convertible car seat, he is still rear-facing and I have no intention of letting him ride in the Jeep yet. Once he is forward-facing, though, would it be safe for him to ride in the Jeep (if he doesn't mind the wind in his face)? How old would your want your child to be before riding in an open Jeep?

Oh my - when I just read the question - I was debating between 7 - 12 years old... never did it cross my mind that you'd be considering a baby.

It isn't the open Jeep that is the problem per say - it is all the other idiots in this world that you can't control. Your baby is clearly less safe in a vehicle that does not protect him. If you were on a closed course, then its no big deal - but in the real world - no way I'd let a baby in there!

i would never let my child ride in an open jeep, they are dangerous and my cousin was like 25 and rode in one and she went through the windshield and has huge scars down her arms. I am so scared to go in one. Make sure it has an airbag and wait until your child is at least 18!!!

Do you mean an actual 'old jeep' used for mudding and riding back roads, or an older jeep model you would be using on the roads?
We have an old 1940's open (no roof or doors or seat belts) jeep and we would take it in the back country when my daughter was one or so (not doing any crazy driving of course).
If you mean like an open jeep like street legal one with seat belts and doors he should be fine now as long as he can stand the wind.
