In 2001 the FBI asked major phone companies to analyze phone call patterns in the US, for 'communities of interest'. Verizon said no, AT&T said yes. They modified their existing C programming language into a variant called Hancock. Apparently it is able to handle the massive amount of date more easily and efficiently.
