AT&T Cancels X7?

Like I said, I don't see where it fits for AT&T. The "blogosphere" has basically ruined Symbian for North America, or vice versa perhaps. I'm sure the X7 will make it to market elsewhere in the world and it might sell a couple units too, but as a subsidized phone on AT&T... I don't know.
 
please. many of us wonder why ATT would even bother with S3. And it appears they are indeed canceling it. rethink wireless is reporting it as being canceled and it's on the "tape", which is why the stock is down bit last two days.
 
I don`t believe any news that doesn’t have reliable source. Only time will tell but Symbian in its current stage will not succeed in the USA.
 
Shame, it has CBD and a better form factor than the C6-01 and E7 (too thick and too large, respectively). Also doesn't have the gaudy menu button like the N8.
 
I think this was the phone that the Symbian app contest, which AT&T co-sponsored, was focused around.

I expect that, though it will come to a quiet conclusion, talk around the contest will be scuttled to minimize any embarrassment.

It kind of sucks for the developers that entered the contest hoping for some publicity from AT&T. Them's the breaks, I guess. It certainly doesn't help Nokia's developer-outreach efforts.
 
I think the delay of the contest and the cancellation of the X7 on AT&T basically suggests that (a) Nokia is taking the contest over alone or (b) the contest is now targeted at the N9.

Either the contest will continue and Nokia will deliver the prizes and promotion, of which there is plenty to be won, or the context is simply extended and targets another device.

Like I said originally, the X7 isn't made for America and I doubt it would have sold. Especially given AT&T's new lineup of Android devices. I don't think this cancellation changes Nokia's position in America in any direction. It's neither better nor worse now - the X7 would have been irrelevant to US consumers and to Nokia's efforts in America.
 
Nokia should convince ATT to release it as a touch screen feature phone and make it eligible for the $15 unlimited data feature, it should sell much better.
 
Symbian has 0 chance in the states at this point, aside from being a dumbphone/sold for dumbphone prices. Sad that a phone with a 4 inch screen that takes 720p video will end up being sold for less than the cheapest android phone at&t has
 
Would be a little strange to cancel so close to the supposed announcement, but I guess anything is possible when dealing with AT&T, aka the Death Star...
 
That same site has a story reporting that the E7 just got delayed, AGAIN....to April. The linked news looks semi-official, from WOM.

Whoah, if true, that's a pretty big epic FAIL. Seriously, *April*? This company is lost.
 
i would agree its a FAIL if for only the reason that, if this software that they are using is THIS difficult to finalilze, bug fix, whatever, then it really speaks to the fact that they need to switch gears in some way. i'm just speculating that it's the software, but over the years of using nokia, the one thing that ALWAYS seems to be the hold up, or the problem, is waiting for the software. "dont worry, the next firmware update is supposed to fix X, Y and Z." at what point is it enough?

case in point i know the N8 is waiting for a nice big web browser update to come along. so if i was in the symbian world, i'd STILL be on the "update is coming to fix this" wagon. seems like a lifetime ago that i switched to android, and when i hear about this type of thing it really hits me square in the face as WOW. same old same old. isnt that a bit fristrating for you users?
 
Yes, it is a shame.
Don't forget what AT&T did to the 6650 and E71x before selling those two.
It took a couple of years before there were good hacks to make them useful again.
No J2ME permissions, No OVI store, No 3G/2G switch, No OVI maps, Unremovable AT&T garbageware, No generic firmware.
If they would sell a Nokia smartphone without doing all that, it might be a bit more successful.
 
Couple of "corrections" of sorts if I may. Mynokiablog is reporting that pre-orders for February delivery in Finland and Sweden are live - obviously there could be further delay and in Nokia's case it would not be a big surprise if there was. :) Second, the April delivery date is reported for Three/3 network in the UK only. Third, the site reporting it is not WOM (if by that you meant womworld.com) but some site called World of Nokia
 
So it's official then. That upcoming conference call with Elop will be very interesting. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but isn't the piece also confirming more Meego delays as well? Possibly no Meego N9 at MWC? That would be even worse for them.
 
Yeah, that was really too bad.

The E71-2 was so nice that many people applauded an AT&T version of the phone, but it was a very different experience and people who bought the E71x could never enjoy some of the things that the E71-2 users on AT&T enjoyed.

The E71-2 was just the right device at the right time. I believe it was even Mobiletechreview's device of choice in 2008.
 
I don't see how that's the case. The article merely references the fact that MeeGo has been delayed, it doesn't say anything about further delays. I don't expect to hear much about MeeGo at MWC, but that's not specifically because of any further delay beyond the "MeeGo is a 2011 event" delay. It would be great if they announced something, because they really need to IMO, but MeeGo 1.2's not even going to be in bug hardening at that time.
