Oh, one more thing, I've heard Accutane has pschological side affects so you may want to steer clear of that one if you already have anxiety...

Snowcloud.

Listen, in my eyes, nobody could possibly have acne worse than me. I had cystic acne so bad that i couldnt turn my head either direction. my whole jawline swelled up horrible. I am on my 6th month of accutane, and it is a miracle. I havent been out of the house much lately because of the constant low self confidence, which is stupid considering how good i look now compared to 6 months ago. I was literally suicidal, i was on my last string. I went to an allergist, because i thought that something i was eating/not eating could have been the cause. The allergist looked straight at me and said, "I cant do anything for you"... i bursted into tears and had my death planned to the T.. :( But he sent me across the street to a fantastic derm that saved my life. She knew right away, that since i've tried EVERY topical treatment on the markey, antibiotics, and 3 different fasting diets.. that this is the only option left. I HIGHLY reccommend that u look into this. People say that accutane causes depression, but the only times i got depressed were when i looked in the mirror. Today, I am clear as a bell. I get a microscopic blackhead that surfaces here and there, as the accutane still tries to push everything possible out. But overall, i have completely this hellish journey and hope to never return. I am only 19, im not sure if age has anything to do with potential side effects (doesnt seem like it would), but DEFINATELY talk to a derm and consider this treatment! its a MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IC ANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!!! all the people that have tried every other treatment out there, and still suffer from acne.. GET TO A DAMN DERM AND GET THIS!! IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE!! ITS 100% EFFECTIVE!! with slight side effects, mainly pointing at depression. You mentioned that you are depressed lately anyways, which might concern your doc into keeping you on xanax or anti depressants which is fine to take while on accutane. I was on antidepressants myself.

GO DO IT NOW!! SAVE YOURSELF FROM MONTHS MORE SUFFERING!!

oh btw, food has NOTHING to do with acne according to my derm. When i started the treatment, i wasnt consuming more than 5 grams of sugar per day.. which is next to NOTHING. my diet was so strict for 2 years, thinking that this would help, but it didnt. Now i eat greasy haraburgers (sry your a vegatarian haha), drink as much pop as i want, and beleive me.. im eatin all the sugar my body will take!!! haha..

in short. GET THIS!

I feel your pain! I'm 32 and my skin also had cleared up with birth control all through my twenties. I had to switch due to cost reasons around age 30 and within a year I had the worst skin I've ever had in my entire life.

I finally went to a dermatologist this spring. After a recent follow-up, I've come to the conclusion that he's a bit too quick to medicate his patients (drug company tool!), but for the short term, the following corabination worked wonders for me:

1. Spironolactone. Miracle worker. I've stopped taking it after 6 months b/c for me, it had sexual side effects and the potential for serious birth defects that I wasn't willing to live with. But for my skin, it was absolutely wondrous. I took 100 mg/day and my skin was clear with no oiliness whatsoever.

2. Minocycline. My doctor wants me to be on this all the time. I'm to the point where my skin is clear enough that I'm very happy with it and don't see the sense of being on a 6 month course of daily antibiotics. However, when I first started treatment, I think that the two months I did on the mino really helped clear up my skin...especially my back and got the acne causing bacteria out of my system.

3. Differin. My doctor swears this is doing wonders for my skin. I'm not sure that I see the difference, however its not that risky of a treatment and with my insurance + copay coupons, its free, so I keep using it.

4. Plexion. This is a sulfur based cleanser that is by RX only. It is a goRABend. The smell is pretty icky, but using this twice a day keeps my oiliness under control and stops my pimples in their tracks. I use a half a cloth in my morning shower...face, back and arms (this has done WONDERS for my keratosis pilaris!). In the evenings, I use 1/4 a cloth just on my face. Sometimes, I skip the evening round and use the Cetaphil antibacterial bar or Purpose cleanser instead.

5. Good moisturizer. I use Cetaphil lotion on my face, either the basic or the one with sunscreen, depending on the season (right now, I'm using basic, but I use foundation in the winter, so I have a foundation with SPF 15).

That corabination, used religiously, completely transformed my skin. It took time, though...probably a solid three months before I started seeing serious changes. But it did happen.

Now that I'm off the spironolactone and the minocycline, I do get occasional pimples, especially during my period. I have a bit more oiliness and a few more blackheaRAB on my nose and chin. I bought Acne Free's "Acne & Blackhead Terminator" from the drug store...its 1.5% salicylic acid and 1% benzoyl peroxide. Gets the job done with overdrying like other products with higher concentrations of these products do.

I'm continuing with the plexion, differin, and taking good care of my skin. I'll probably do another round of mino here soon....i'm just not liking that it interferes with birth control.

The earlier poster was right...it doesn't sound like your current dermatologist has a good handle on your issues. Try finding one that understanRAB hormonal acne. They can even run bloodwork to see if that is the case, or at least they can suggest solutions and prescribe medications that will help you determine whether or not hormones are indeed the underlying cause of your condition.

Best of luck!

Hi ,
Your acne sounRAB hormonal as you are a female in her thirties do you take birthcontrol ? also your derm is not giving meRAB that are helping , so you need to see a diffrent one. As far as the products you use on your face they dont sound good you need to invest in better products If you are willing to spend more i reccomend the la mer cleasing gel and remede scrub. As far as the masks go they never did anything for me. If you reaaly want to get rid of your acne see a new derm maybe you need to get a scriot for diffren or something stronger also talk to your ob/gyn maybe u can get a bc to regulate your hormones
