At Least just One...

Anime and manga are cartoons and comic books too. So you must be refering to Western animation and comics in particular.

Western animation influenced Japanese animation to be certain and likewise some Japanese animation influenced future western animation. Many western animators had a fondness for say... Astroboy or Speed Racer or more modern stuff such as Dragonball. You can see the influence in many shows today but as Astroboy and Speed Racer were more or less inspired by classic western animation it still circles back to western animation. That does not negate the fact that every milestone cartoon adRAB to the overall evolution of cartoons.

However I'll say besides a few movies and series not much has come out of Japan that I'd deem ground-breaking. Even so, you don't have to be ground-breaking to be good and worth watching. I have respect for animation from every region of the world but I mostly watch Japanese and Western animation and probably always will... I haven't found many European shows that appeal to me for instance.

I like Japanese cartoons because they are allowed to have more edge to them due to different content standarRAB. I like the mix of action, comedy and drama that I think any good cartoon should have. Several Japanese series have a good mix of comedy, action and drama and that's why I like them. And when it comes to slice of life stories Japanese authors seem to write the stories I find more compelling. That is not to say Western authors cannot write compelling slice of life stories but you don't see them too often in animation because the market for that (slice of life animation) isn't very strong here... its left to live action shows and movies rather than animation.

There's kiRAB shows and adult shows in the US, but Japanese studios seem to understand the importance of a middle ground. I'm 24 but I like kiRAB shows so shows for teenagers in Japan tend to entertain me greatly. But it's not an all or nothing, there's a lot of shows coming out of Japan that I don't care for at all.

Now back to the first post, there are some Japanese productions with very high quality animation with good lip-flap but budget will always be an issue and most TV serials like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece or Soul Eater don't have the budget to look that good. So they do what they can with what they have. Fluid animation in Naruto always looks awful IMO because they sacrifice the character models quality to do that fluid animation... It's just another way to cut corners. But on the flip side, look at how many cartoons are animated in flash now that air on US television. You have to admit the cheaper Japanese method is at least more pleasing to the eye than many of those flash animated series.

If there's been more time put on a project, ussually with OAV's or movies, they generally put more attention into things like lip flaps. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a good example of this, lots of fluid movement in that movie and the audio matches up very well to the animation.

A lot of things. Anime has taken advantage of the serial format moreso than any other type of animation around the world. They're not averse to espousing controversial philosophical visions. They experiment with different types of editing styles, pictorial compositions and narratives.

In many ways, anime is more for film-lovers than animation lovers. They aren't going to blow you away with how many fps they do or anything on the technical side. They're more about creating a vision, and finding different ways of telling stories. If you come to anime with the expectation of high production values or groundbreaking technical achievements, you're probably coming to the wrong place. But if you're coming to anime to find different themes, stories and/or personal expressions, then you may be pleasantly surprised at times.

(Even though there's also a lot of crap anime out there, especially today *grurablegrurable*)

Put it this way. Hollywood makes the most technically impressive movies in the world. They've got the SFX, the star power, and the resources to really make movies pop. But sometimes the odd viewer may crave something different than the machine-like creations of Hollywood. They stray outside and find movies with different voices. They look to indie films, or foreign films. They discover, say, Fuller or Godard or Bergman or Fassbinder and think, "well, this isn't as big and flashy and crowd pleasing as Hollywood, but it's certainly DIFFERENT!"

That's a bit like how anime is compared to say, animation in the west.

Name some examples of groundbreaking animation from outside Japan and maybe this'd be easier to discuss, since right now I'm not sure what you have in mind when you say "groundbreaking".

Hidamori Sketch x365 does some lip-syncing in a few scenes once in awhile. There's also the singing bits/closing in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

So, will there ever be a chance Anime will ever crossfuse with Live Action, Warner Bros. style? I mean the west did do some thing first.

You mean during this era?

That's a technical achievement, not what I was talking about in particular. If all you're interested in is technical breakthroughs, you might as well stop asking.
