asymmetrical eye prescription can't do half-rim or rimless glasses?

I have differing prescriptions for each eye

OD -3.00
OS -0.50

my local glasses shop tells me that this means I can't wear half-rim or rimless frames, is this true or is he just bs-ing me? I'd rather not go full rim
