polaris is the northern star that people in the north sometimes follow for direction

however polaris the northern star cannot be seen in the sourthern hemisphere what is the name of the star that the sourtherners use to follow for direction

and if so please list a website if you can!!!! THANKS

There is no star that is bright enough or close enough to the south rotational pole for people to use for southern hemisphere navigation.

At present, the naked-eye star nearest to the south pole in the sky is Sigma Octantis (about 1 degree away from the actual pole).
Its apparent magnitude is only 5.45, so its not very useful for general navigational purposes.
