astronomy buffs - what did I see in the sky over East Anglia last night - fireball?

Saw the most amazing thing in the sky last night, but not sure what it could have been. Here are the particulars:
*Bright orange, looked like it *might* have had a tail, but couldn't be sure
*Very high up in the sky, too high for an airplane for that big of a light
*Completely silent
*Extremely slow moving
*Observed for about two minutes, then my husband and I watched as it seemed to get smaller and smaller, until it was only a tiny pinpoint of light, then winked out altogether
As I said, it was very high up in the sky, but the light was quite bright and big sized. If it had been an airplane with that big a light, we would have heard it, and it wouldn't have been so high up. The size of the light was - not sure how to describe it accurately - but it was pretty big for something that was so obviously very high in the sky!

I've never seen anything like it before. Only wish I could have got it on video! Although it was very, very slow moving, it didn't last long enough for one of us to grab the cam. So, astronomy buffs - what the hell was it?
