Astro Telescope For amature home use?

I wana know if i can get an astro telescope, i did some research on shoping websites bt i need help,
1) shud be cheep max $100 US
2) Any experience what will i be able to observe with it, like Planets moons etc or not? and what kind of image quality?
3) in what kind of shop i expect to find telescope in it?
I can spend more on astronomy hobby but i wana make sure i find it that interestin or not?
im a software engineering student so i dnt haf any career in astronomy at all
 
You can find telescopes in that price range at places like walmart, but all you'll be able to see with it in any detail is the moon. I'd highly advise not getting a telescope that costs less than $200, astronomy is something where you definitely get what you pay for.

With a budget of $100 I'd go with some binoculars.
 
Frood Dude is right - a good pair of binoculars will get you more for $100 than the kind of telescope that goes for that much. For the telescope, you'd be mostly paying for the mount rather than the optics; with the binoculars, you'd have good optics and would be able to see with the same magnification. Plus you don't have the setup problems. A good pair of binocs will get you craters on the Moon, rings of Saturn, and moons of Jupiter.
